Good morning everyone. I hardly ever post, but thought these images were worthy of sharing.

This was the view from Ripon this morning

Are these visible anytime of day or just sunrise and sunset?

Never seen them but although cloudy right now maybe another chance later as it clears up shortly

Any time of day I think as they are visible here over lunchtime.   🙂

Nice, thanks! I'll keep an eye out ☺️

Still pretty much overcast here though, only a few gaps. I guess the low sun this time of year helps as I saw on the news that it's usually when the sun shines up on them that it illuminates them from below.

Looks spectacular though from the pics! 🤩

A lot of East Yorkshire have lost their power today. Just 2 miles down the a63 they haven't had power since this morning.

Fabulous pics @Gary0679

A foul day here today with lots of showers in the very strong wind, and despite the weather station reading 11c at lunchtime, it definitely did not feel mild.   Even the dog wasn’t bothered about walking today.
I lost a perspex pane out of the greenhouse overnight, but managed to get it back in and it’s now strapped down with elastic bungees! 😁  Unfortunately it was recycling bin day yesterday and numerous bins were blown over so today the streets are full of metal cans, plastic bottles and paper rubbish! 🙄

I see there is a Yellow weather warning for Wind
for Christmas Eve', Sunday 24th,  in our region.
I haven't seen anything else about this as yet.

Local forecast doesn't have any strong winds for us on 24th however if they off by 20+ mph it will be another day hitting the 60mph mark.

Just outside the warning area for the 24th. The 28th and 29th look like a repeat of Thursday. However since it's a holiday it'll be low impact so there shouldn't be any warnings. Me being sarcastic.

I dunno, looking on the charts page for max gusts it shows the reds move in for the south and then they move up in the early hours to our area on the 28th. Keeping an eye on it.

Trying to find out how windy it'll be on Christmas Eve given the warning that appeared. Just looks like a brief spell of wind, bit like what'll be happening during the afternoon on Monday....😉

Very mild out tonite, hardly worth lighting the log burner tbh, cottage surprisingly warm even after having a couple of windows open during the day, saves a quid or two 😉

More sustained period of high winds for us now so that would justify the yellow warning. If it goes of up to 77mph the met should but won't issue a red.

Been the same here since Thursday, blowing a hooley again this afternoon Brid is showing 40mph+ gust, I suspect close to 50 here. Tomorrow's wind speed forecast has produced a yellow warning, this afternoon has been similar, but no warning. I struggle to make sense of the warnings, and I think the general public are getting to the point where they ignore them. They are trying to cram too much into 3 warning levels, with the 'Impact' being very subjective. Personally if a threshold is likely to be exceeded, with some indication of likelihood from 'possibility of' to 'will', then I think a warning should be issued.

Been surfing cayton this morning. Winds were so strong offshore the waves got ragged. Found shelter on the point🙌

Similar here. If its W to N it can be ridiculously windy as we're very exposed in that direction. As it stands it's gusty but nothing notable. Very mild though, up to 14.6C now.

Winds picked up a bit about 20 to 25  mph down on the forecast values. A wet morning so far which is the main weather feature.

Yes, suddenly picked up here too. Just had a 47mph gust.

Beating us 45mph. Local forecast says we should be hitting between 50 and 62mph. At least the rain has stopped.
