Still grim out there this morning and feeling chilly even though temps 4.1c with more rain to come today. Over 33mm of rain in last 24 hours combined with snow melt has produced lots of standing water.  Fields have water running out into roads and even the football playing fields near us have water standing on them.

Prospects for later this month are looking stacked with potential.  Last night 18z threw out some interesting charts in the period just before Christmas and 00z Ensembles showing a gradual drift down in temps again after some less cold temps this weekend.

Yeah, cold one last night.  Interesting though that my ‘overnight low’ actually occurred at 8.14am, when I got to -3.5c

Mine was similar timing. This will be a feature of any frosty mornings until about the end of the 1st week of January when we have full radiation nights and the late sunrise.

@matt brid Doesn't surprise me, wind is gusting to around 45mph SE according to Met Off. and Brid Harbour is susceptible to gales with an easterly component. Tide is going out at the moment, but when it turns it could get lively.

The lack of a rain warning surprises me, it’s been absolutely chucking it down for several hours and the area of heavier precipitation is much further north than the yellow rain warnings suggest

Yes it's been a vile day. Dark all day and very wet, especially this afternoon. My least favourite kind of weather

Just driven back from Driffield on part of the main road that goes to Scarborough, it is horrendous, rivers of brown water running off the fields in various spots nr Langtoft, will catch a few out i fear this evening, worst I've seen that road in a long time....

December thunderstorm at Huddersfield and Hull darkness

I remember it turning completely dark at lunchtime in London in December 1962,  this was caused by smog. Very spooky for a 5yo.

I remember the smog of Dec 1962 well. I was at grammar school in Surrey and we were all sent home early one afternoon. The last of the really bad smogs before the Clean Air legislation began to kick in.

I had forgotten but was reminded by Netweather that last Tuesday and Wednesday was the 10th anniversary of the North Sea surge, the worst surge since 1953. I was not in the area in Dec 2013 but the pictures from Whitby & Saltburn, places I know well, looked particularly devastating.

Another wet miserable day at the coast, started raining at breakfast time and now moderate to heavy rain from a leaden grey sky. Ground is waterlogged, so any rain just runs off causing surface flooding. It's Beverley Xmas market tomorrow, if its not raining we are going if it's like today we will stay home.

A lot of standing water on the local roads in the Bridlington area, places that don't usually flood, also the 'Gypsy race' has over topped between Boynton & Rudston flooding the surrounding fields a sign the local water table is high.

35kts gusts and sideways rain, throughly unpleasant evening on the Wolds, feet up in front of the log burner looks the best plan. 🔥

Yeah it's howling out there. Very gusty here indeed! 40mph max here so far on the Davis.

I think last night’s gales are confirmed! Thankfully no one hurt or real damage.

A better morning here, very windy last night, not sure what peak gust was. More rain in the forecast, any rain is now just going to run off. Anyone know what rainfall totals are so far this month in our area?

Could be a short windy spell overnight again although nothing compared to yesterday.

If the radar is to be trusted, it could be abit 'ropey' locally outside in the next few hrs? 🤷‍♂️
