So this thread is not for moaning about other members which is fair enough, can we  though moan about the gestapo moderators? 😁🤪🤷

You think that's bad.  Apparently it's snowing here.

looks like snow but is it fuck.PNG

Nothing white fall from skies my end. I had to chuckle at that on my app. Gutting how close we were to something exceptional.

British winters have become so tedious I now dread them because you know it will be months of rain gloom, cloud, and mild temperatures, basically one long autumn and not winter.

That is a meme photo. Honestly.

It's the flip-side of what kept happening throughout high summer last year, where literally the entirety of Europe outside of the UK had sunny, warm weather, whilst we were under a big blob of cloud 24/7.

Is anyone starting to believe in weather alteration technology yet? If any country has it, it's the UK! 😝

'get the cold in first'..

We have the cold, and have had the cold, for days.

We have had heavy snow in the UK on temps milder than this before.

A comment I have seen in the model thread....... promise not to tell anyone but I want to tell you this secret...  in a quiet whispering voice......its cold now......

🤯

8c below average min temps is not cold, apparently...

(Speaking for my area at least, where it was -4c yesterday morning and at night, and looking to be similar today and tomorrow).

Worth noting that if it were July, the equivalent of heat to this would be 32c (8c above London average max temps for July). Which I think even the most ardent of warm-lovers will attest to as 'hot' weather. Indeed, that would be considered extreme heat to many in this forum.

the sooner winter goes, the better. When that cold arrived it has been nothing but a pain in the a*** for me i've had blocked nose, tickly throat and due to my eye condition it has been twice as bad as it normally is due to the cold weather. Man I really hate winter here as its nothing but an nuisance.

I prefer summer now even with the humidity wasps and hot nights, at least you can have BBQs and spend time outdoors. Winters with gloom and rain and continuous cloud are pointless.

Hits home the reality of having much faith in the models when its in relation to anything more than 2/3 days out max.

And even that's a push! Day/night before is only really when you can safely be assured of anything

That's when it comes to specifically precipitation though - and it's always been that case.

Even day/night before is sometimes tricky - that large band of snow in the NW of England yesterday morning was showing up as just spotty showers of no real organisation in the models (well, most of them) just 6 hours before - yet on the morning itself they all merged together to form a longer spell of snowfall for the majority of the region.

The general synoptics and the general pattern and the like can sometimes be reliable enough 5-10 days out.

Around -6C here this morning but dry, very dry. And very sunny

I'm not going to complain about this. Compared to the rain that we get in this part of the world, this is very pleasant. The only issue is the low sun is positively blinding at this time of year (13 degrees above the horizon today at noon).

As for the people saying they like the wind and rain, I suggest you spend a year in the West Highlands, NW Wales or Lake District with 3 metres and 250 days of rain in a year. It will make you appreciate your dull winters.

Note to myself - stick to the NWP within 5 days.  Everything else is just pie in the sky.  Hopefully I will learn my lesson this time.  This chase has been so draining for so little.  The biggest bust in NW history?

As so many pushed the narrative of "once in a decade synoptics", "entrenched cold from the 15th to the end of Jan" we ended up with two days of real cold, in the middle of Winter and the "Great Blizzard of 2024" 🤣🤣
