Scottish weather discussion - Spring 2023/24

Still flurries here as heavier showers skirt slightly to east but temps dropping now below freezing coupled with strengthening NW wind pushing windchill down to minus 4 so had to change my hat to the serious one!

I’m working on Tuesday 7am - 9pm(carer) with lots of dark hill roads. I am praying I do not get stuck but will prepare for worst case scenario

Just back from a morning 10k run - left in brilliant sunshine with a dusting underfoot. 5 mins in and the cloud encroached with light snow soon following - that soon turned moderate and for a while heavy. Running in the snow - cathartic, invigorating and stunning - a joy to be alive and out in it. 

Much as I love prolonged snow and cold and, worst case scenario, if this current spell ends up disappointing and the remaining winter months thereafter fizzle out - I will at least have this mornings memory and images to keep me going till winter 24/25.

Happy snow hunting to us all this week - hopefully we all see a taste of winter proper

I see a brief warm up over the weekend, round 2 will show itself in the models soon, round 2 having much more punch and depth of cold, the background signals are very encouraging, of note the EC 46 hasnt performed well in the last few months. Think by mid February you, ll get a few cathartic runs in the snow

Same here for temperature after a dull start got one really heavy snow shower which dropped the temperature below zero with ground rapidly freezing up in the wind.  Its amazing to watch the ground freeze up in front of you.

Looks like the - 10c 850hpa has reached the northern Isles, a couple of hours should see most of us covered by them, I wonder if we see the - 12c 850hpa approaching. Expecting a little bit more northerly component in the flow in the next 18 hours (from an imby point of view)

Nice tae experience snaw fae a N-NW'erly. In the eastern borders you never get anything from that direction.

Just back a walk in varying conditions from sunny to heavy snow showers. Wind is bitter though, and has increased in speed, fairly blows when a shower comes through. Snow that’s fallen is melting as quickly as it landed still. 
Nice to hear and see some of us are getting a decent amount and we’re not even into the peak snowfall time

It's turning into a nice day now with plenty of blue sky making a pleasant change from the cold greyness of that miserable HP cell.

3.3c, dew point -1c here. The blue skies and frost will be very welcome here too. Last week was horrible.

Temp still bouncy but note comments on deeper cold inbound. Also seems to be showers are getting more intense to the north...?

Temp cover in my part of town, a proper cover building atcthe golf course so my bats are retired for thecweek. In heavy bursts sone light drifting starting...love it, and all the other reports!

Up to 3cm lying on the driveway, but we're in a bit of a sunny lull at the moment. Plenty of showers still to the north so something has to hit again at some point.

Gone very dark here now, showers becoming more intense now, howling winds in squally showers. Pigs had enough and gone back to bed.
