About to leave for a social night out -- wearing wellies, several layers of clothes topped by a mac.

iand61 March is often as cold as Jan and Feb at height, the drop in temp is usually at its most marked in March, upper air temps in northerly outbreaks can and often are colder than at any other point in the year, arctic at its coldest, SSTs bottom out, on northern high ground March is firmly still winter, brings more snow than December in an average year, catches many fell walkers out, when the valleys are bathed in increasingly warming sunshine with spring flowers out and birds tweeting. In late March 13 yes exceptional but snow held at valley bottoms. In late March 18 there was ice covering large parts of Thirlmere.  As the case with September when the weather doesn't usually set into autumn mode until the equinox, I always feel the same with March, wait until the equinox and you can say spring is finally here. Still a month to go.. all the chat of spring is here early Feb....

Rain Lady It can be a good month for sure, had plenty of decent march snows but sometimes brings early hints of proper late Spring i.e 2012 when we reached 20c on 3 successive days at the end of the month. You just never know what can happen with this warming climate. Look at Feb 2019 high teens we got up to, crazy. I think we're not only getting warmer we are getting wetter too.

No surprise that it’s raining again.

ah well, hopefully it brightens up this afternoon and maybe, just maybe a chance of a bit of snow tomorrow.

A damp and miserable start to the day here but at least the promise of some drier weather this afternoon.

A change in the weather coming up over the next few days, mild rain to be replaced by cold rain. Joy...

Yes....Grey and wet. We are stuck in a rut.

Just waiting at Stalybridge for the Newcastle train. Yeah, let's head East and chase the rain.

Driving to Somerset for my sisters birthday, Saturday going to Bournemouth vs City… then meeting with friends from Kent for brunch at Aunt Fanny’s farm shop and cafe near blandford forum for Sunday brunch before driving back home…

Ooh tis gusty and wet, didn't need to open the curtains first thing, could hear the rain hitting the window.  Yes, some interesting weather to watch tomorrow.  Looks quite squally on the front of that system in the early hours/ waking hours, dependent on its arrival.  GFS has snow for the tops in its wake.  Will probably be sleety cold rain here 150m asl.

The fields around us have been flooded all winter. Our back garden will be getting its own marine life soon if this rain doesn't stop 😂

A disgusting morning, very blustery and wet. Has eased now but looks like it will continue here for the afternoon. I'm off to Macc forest for a walk tonight, wish me luck!

Reflecting on conditions since October, whilst consistently wet, so far, thankfully the Lake District hasn't experienced any significant flooding, just a bit of minor localised flooding. However, it probably would only take a couple of very heavy rainfalls to incur some significant flooding given how wet the ground is.

The outlook is set to stay wet, but again nothing overly very wet or long lasting.

Today has been poor so far, should hopefully improve through the afternoon.

As said looking forward to tomorrow and some polar air with associated bright blue skies. Its been a very poor spell of weather since 20 Jan endless cloud and rain.

 Had Worse

Its been like that for months now at Tadcaster, I drive to York twice a week.

The river in York has overflowed and been deeper than the benches on the paths next to it. Beer gardens on the edge flooded etc.

Iceaxecrampon It was certainly more wading than walking on the way down from Styhead. Windy Gap certainly lived up to it's name on Saturday as well. The one advantage of the low cloud was that we did some lower Wainwrights I had not done before and might not have otherwise chosen to do if the weather had been better.
