LeeSnowFan I think you’d meet up okay at that time but the roads and public transport would be a pain on the way back I’d imagine! Friday looks doable however tho it will just be wet!

yeah you’ll be too far east and too low down to see settling snow id imagine.

Latest updates seem to be slightly colder, but not enough to change the outcome I suspect. Watching the webcams at the NYMR is always interesting in these situations. Grosmont station is ~50m Goathland is ~150m and its often wet in Grosmont and snow at Goathland.

More peeved at the groundhog day bin men day, 50mph gusts for early Friday morning, which of course is bin day

This looks like a non-event to me. UKV has rain or sleet everywhere but those areas with good elevation. The band hits in the afternoon at the warmest time and has above freezing dewpoints everywhere but the Pennines.

Just not cold enough really.

It’s just going to be a horrible cold & wet day. Probably the worst kind of weather. Spring can’t arrive soon enough.

reef it’s between 12 and 5 that snow is forecast for South Yorkshire. 6pm that is about right. It’s not forecast to stay as snow on the ground it’s forecast to melt Thursday night. Have you got frames for 12/2/4?

cheese It’s going to be a day of settling snow for most apart from the East turning to rain in the evening. It will just be nice to see some snow settle on the ground for a few hours I guess!

Some of the 12z models have downgraded the snow a bit , feel a bit less confident below 250m now.

matty40s  Don’t go as far as Meadowhall (J34) as it’s not dual carriageway into the city and not the most direct.  Best route which is dual and straight into the city is J33 (Catcliffe).  I don’t know if you are aware but there are lengthy roadworks starting around J30 all the way up to J35a with a 50mph restriction, so allow extra travelling time.

Agree with everyone above. I'm now not confident of any settling snow (other than temporary slushy deposits) outside of the orange warning area. I think for many of us a day of heavy sleet with rain from late evening. A shame, and I agree with the sentiment of roll on spring!

Yeah big downgrade from previous runs, wouldn't expect widespread 10-15cm in the amber areas unless your 200m+.

winterof79 thanks mate. Yeah as I suspected a period of heavy snow for a wide area of west and South Yorkshire before turning to sleet and finally rain early Friday morning.

Will just be nice to see it falling out of the sky I suppose!

A high ground only event I'm afraid. Even in the heavier echoes its showing as rain for places like Leeds.

Mark Bayley you’ll have a covering of 2-5cms that will melt Friday morning.

Be enough to get out in it for an hour or 2 however! Better than a kick in the teeth!

Cheese Rice that’s snow in Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley though.

The arpege and WRF are showing widespread 2-5cms on low ground and these models I’d always have confidence in. The UKV can be a little under done on snow amounts and snow lines

Yeah I imagine Sheffield will do better than Leeds.

Scott Ingham I would honestly rather have nothing. I have zero interest in falling snow that doesn’t settle, or transient slushy coverings.

Scott Ingham let's see. Dew points dont look great, 1c plus away from the pennine areas. Intensity might help, but that is more of an advantage those to the south of Leeds have. A now cast situation, I'll update tomorrow afternoon!

Would be a shame for the majority of us but we go again 2nd half Feb as todays runs are an improvement for that a little 🤞

Keep the faith

I think the way people overhyped the cold spell in January has led to some fatigue across the entire forum, myself included. I don’t expect a decent snowfall here even if I am positioned in a slightly better position and at better elevation than some others. A hot summer couldn’t come soon enough for me!
