Well, if you're nicknamed 'Shrubzilla', spring has come early this year: 👍

"Big Rhodey" usually blooms in April but due to recent wet weather is flowering now.

Methuselah This illustrates why I think I've already written off "spring" 2024.

Flowering at the wrong time, when it's still dull, wet and gloomy.

When (if?) it finally settles down, all the flowers will have gone.

I sincerely hope we don't have a Feb/March combination as hideous as 2024 for a long, long time. Easily the worst Feb-March combination of my lifetime.

Summer8906 I'm not so sure about that, mate -- they might just do what they're supposed to: produce as many viable offspring as they can. 🤔

At least with these temps most will not be complaining about the cost of having their heating on for so long! Every cloud.

markyo Haven't got above 12c this year yet, heating still needed here, south coast is slowest place to warm up in spring.

raz.org.rain Not so sure, a wet and dull Easter would be just more of what we've had for 9 months while a white Easter would actually be novel, and interesting.

GFS 12z better for avoiding an Easter deluge, though has cold-looking easterlies and perhaps a bit of rain in the south due to a low close by (but one which keeps to the south).

markyo Mine is on as we speak. I'm feeling chilly. 5-16c are hideous chilly temperatures where I feel most cold. Bring back 0c or skip to 20c Thanks

Crazy differences between the South Coast and further north tomorrow - cloudy and 11 degrees on the South Coast vs 16 degrees and sunny spells in the Midlands.

I’ve had the window opened at night for the past few weeks and definitely don’t need the heating on during the day.

I've been working on some late spring / summer versus winter landscape comparisons in the local area below. It makes you realise how much alive and nicer the countryside looks during summer and that brings so much happiness, compared to everything in winter when the scenery across England looks grey and dull when there is no snow. Thankfully not long to go now until everything is green, alive and it's warmer, hopefully sunnier as well which is long overdue! A very early spring bloom appears to be the case this year, following the wet, dull but very mild February and first 3 weeks of March. It was good to see some sunshine in recent days, but more is needed.

I've just noted that I'm already over the 400mm mark for yearly rainfall.

I've just had a look at how rough the mid summer period was down here in 2021.

For those of you in the north, you obviously had a good summer. Down here, I locally had a 28 day spell with just 58hrs of sunshine between June-July. For context, that would be a below average *February*.

Compounded by getting roughly 300-350% of normal monthly rainfall and maxes being 1.5c below normal.

It might just be the worst ever summer period I've personally ever experienced. Whilst August was also dreadful, in contrast it didn't feel quite as bad as that period. At least early June and mid July were decent which saved it from being quite as rough as the likes of 07/12, despite that dreadful period.

Just felt like a rant on that summer, and to help the northerners here understand just how rough it actually was down here.

A very pleasant sunny day here, despite a cold breeze. Some low overnight temperatures with frost as a reminder that it’s still early spring

Summer8906 once we get to this time of year, I think a lot of people are looking for something drier and warmer. Snow after March just feels alien and wasted.

Oh joy, it's looking likely that next week's colder spell will amount to more rain, because we so desperately need more rain. I would honestly be happy to never see rain ever again.
