  1. As @bomdabass says, here in Glasgow it is still light until 9pm although that changes this week. That for me is usually the first sign of the waning summer with nights drawing in. The difference with 6 weeks ago around the solstice, or even 4 weeks ago when it was still light until about 10pm, becomes marked now. I like to refer to the time around late August and early September as the dog days of summer. I know that term has a proper meaning, but for me it is about those late summer days where schools are back, football is back on, the nights become that bit darker. We tend here at least to get a spell of decent dry weather here around this time, but due to the schools being back in the place seems that bit quieter even with some nice weather. Everyone knows that soon they’ll have to hunker down for the first storms of autumn (not that they’ve been a feature recently) and that the days of being outside in T-shirt or sitting on the grass are numbered. Enjoy them while we can.
  2. According to the radar there has been an intense area of rain in the Johnstone area for over an hour now. Was expecting it to move in this direction but seems to be drifting SW. Edit to say: Likewise around Garelochhead - if the radar is correct there must have been some amount of rain fallen up there in the past 2 hours. These showers don't seem to move anywhere fast.
  3. Torrential rain, thunder and lightning in south side of Glasgow now. The way it just developed all around was quite something.
  4. Looks like it’s organised into a lot of rain for the north and east of the city. Sun poking through here on the south side in contrast.
  5. Big cell over central Glasgow just now. Missed it on the south side but looks like being intense over there. Some loud rumbles of thunder…
  6. Markedly fresher today compared to last week and the weekend. Quite pleasant, but I did enjoy the heat of the sun.
  7. Late August into September can be pleasant. Yes we lose the late evening light but it can be warm all the same. Some perspective please…..
  8. Absolutely glorious day - like summers (and Glasgow Fair Mondays) of yore. Fantastic day out on my bike on the moors behind Eaglesham, can't wait to do it all again tomorrow.
  9. Pretty much complete cloud cover in Glasgow and feels a bit cool in the breeze. Hoping the forecast is right for this extended warm spell as I’m starting to get the impression it keeps being put back each day, to be replaced by this afternoon’s faire.
  10. Not often Glasgow Airport is one of the hottest places in Britain but I can confirm it’s pretty glorious here a few miles away in the south side. Great visibility from a nearby hill up to the Highlands as well.
  11. Aye, I know we should be used to it, but usually it’s not quite as bad as this! We tend to get a decent spell in May which usually takes the edge off the disaster which is June. Really spoiling us this year.
  12. We’ve only had a handful of days reaching 20c here so far, all within the past week or so, and I see we’re going back to mid teens and showers. Not impressed.
  13. Yep there’s a real gloom about today. Weather app was promising sun would break through around now but looking at the thickness of the cloud and the fact it doesn’t appear to be very likely to shift, it seems quite unlikely. But of a shame after yesterday’s sun.
  14. Lovely and warm, actually a bit humid and sticky to be fair but fair nicer than the cold dross of previously. Only issue is this is the third day in a row where after a nice morning it’s clouded over. Boring.
  15. It’s very dull and grey here. Doesn’t look like any chance of the sun forcing through any time soon. Was a very nice morning though.
  16. Dull and grey all day here. Can even see the eastern extent of the cloud cover from my window. Hopefully the sun can get through here tomorrow...
  17. I was out for a run at lunchtime. Shawlands was dry, Mount Florida looked like it had been hit by a monsoon, and when I turned the corner to go into Cathcart it was dry again. It was that localised.
  18. Yesterday was brutal. Thoroughly depressing stuff, rain has stopped for now but the cold temperatures remain. Average maximum temperature for Glasgow is 15c I believe, yesterday I think we managed 6c and the forecast for the next 10 days doesn’t even get us close. Can see records tumbling this month unless we get a real heatwave in the last week.
  19. Yep, quite pleasant out there. Just about to head out for a run. Also good to see high teen maxima returning to the outlook.
  20. Out on my bike on the moors out by Eaglesham earlier. Blowing and absolute hoolie it was. The wind got noticeably colder when I was out there too. Saw a farmer bringing sheep and cows in, I’m presuming because of the approaching cold? Also lots of new born lambs about.
