Watching the BBC SE weather just before 7pm it struck me how long this is going to last tomorrow down here. Normally these things race through quickly but it still seemed to look pretty nasty well into the late afternoon/early evening. Was going to walk into the office early doors and then figured by the time I leave to come home it will be largely over. Think I’ll stay at home now.

Storm Eunice - 18th February

Bit odd those BBC figures. Everywhere else along the south coast, including Fareham and Portsmouth, seems to be in the 70s mph. Is there something unusual about Southampton? -
10 miles in from the coast and not looking forward to tomorrow at all to be honest. Been hoping for downgrades all week and haven’t happened unfortunately. Being the glass half full chap I am, I’m fully expecting the Russian invasion of Ukraine to start just about the same time as the roof of my house is falling apart.

IMBY rates as a 6 or 7 for cold and longevity but, at best, a 4 for snow. Pretty much all of our snow, no more than a couple of cms came on Sunday and we were never quite in the right spot for what came after. Just the way it goes. We did however see falling snow for four consecutive days and still have some on the ground, which I don’t think we even managed during the BFTE. It was great though to see some, who’ve had a lean time in recent years, do so well. The most important thing for me is that it’s proved once again that it’s more than possible to get cold and snow in our region. I dread the day ever arriving where it just becomes a thing of the past.

Clear skies and it feels pretty much like game over for this part of East Sussex, just too far west and everything sliding away to our south east or dying out before it gets here. Will be delighted to look a fool and be proven wrong later on though! Been frustrating overall, though given we’re not in the most favoured location and others have got less than us I shouldn’t complain. It’s just been the case that we’ve been on the edge of things throughout and missed the heavier stuff, apart from a brief period during the day on Sunday when the ground was too warm for much to settle. Well done to everyone though who’s hit the jackpot during this spell. On to the next chase. Will there be one more this winter?

Been light snow on and off for a couple of hours in Hailsham. Anyone know how it’s looking for later? I’m not sure if this is it for the Kent streamer, the latest BBC SE forecast looked promising into the late afternoon, early evening but the radar seems to suggest it’s starting to slide away to the the south.
