  1. Thanks for the info swebby - will get it sorted
  2. Indeed Mondy - having spent 4 whole days on holiday last week in varying degrees of torential rain, the geographic area to which the title of the thread refers needs a wee bit of clarification!
  3. Complete fluke though Mick! All we wanted to do was get on it and have some tea. Took ages to come in because of the swell, and then we had to go on through the car deck as it was unsafe to put out the gangplanks. Oh the Scottish weather - in May!!
  4. Spent a few days on Colonsay last week and here's a shot of the ferry coming into the wee harbour, in between heavy hailshowers to take me home to Oban
  5. Much of the snow on Ben Nevis was delivered overnight Fri/Sat. Extensive snow still at 2500ft+ on the drive round the highlands this weekend
  6. Have let the techie boys know Tim - thanks
  7. Hail shower in Dublin this lunchtime. Smooth flight home to cloudy skies with a wee bit of sunshine at 4pm. Chilly.
  8. It certainly is - and my daily commute takes me over it on the train every day
  9. Aye - had family up so thought I'd take them out to sea! And the Historic Scotland shop sells mead  Wanting to do the boat to the Isle of May from Anstruther this summer.
  10. Easter Saturday's trip from South Queensferry out on the boat to Inchcolm Island in the middle of the Forth. Very pleasant - enjoy  http://www.maidoftheforth.co.uk
  11. There were a few cracks of thunder on 27 March in Edinburgh, my husband relaibly informs me - but I was on a train heading to Englandshire so only saw big grey clouds from the carriage window whilst whisking through East Lothian. So personally, I'm at zero
  12. Holiday Monday in Edinburgh - 18ºC and wall-to-wall sunshine. Nice.
  13. lol we should start a support group Reef. It's haaard to stomach
  14. Oh dear :o That's what we've had all week 9ºC and cloud/haar.... - happy to share it around!
  15. Hello dogs32 There have been a lot of problems with PM spam across Invision forum message boards so a recent upgrade now limits the number of PMs that can be sent and the frequency with which you can send them. We're monitoring the effect this has on the enjoyment of the site - but the alternative until a better fix is invented is running the risk of literally hundreds of spam PMs - if a PM bot manages to get through all the security etc. as has happened on other forums
  16. Dreadful day in Edinburgh and Dundee. Drizzle and windy....
  17. Or could it be an indication of a sudden change of direction in upper winds?
  18. Well, indeed Cookie. Our northern lattitude up here really adversley effects the opportunities available to catch one. I'd say late April to early August in central/northern Scotland are the boundaries of possibility. I never cease to notice the good old pale scottish skin that borders on having a 'blue' tinge up here - such is the lack of high UV instances.
  19. Don't you melt?! Worth clarifying that the early October sun tan I mention in the opening post of the thread was as a result of being out in the sun from 8.30am to 6pm on a crystal clear day, navigating the 20-odd locks on the Leeds-Liverpool through Wigan. Most unusual.
  20. Just to get us in the appropriate light-hearted mood, it's worth reporting that today has been a splendid spring's day in Edinburgh. Wall to wall sunshine that felt quite strong. Now, my personal (unscientific) recollections of acquiring sunburn are - mid April 1993 in a pub beer garden in Manchester (around 11 weeks before the summer solstice) and Friday 5th October 2007 on a canal boat in Wigan (some 15 weeks after the 'mid summer' date). As we are now only some 16 weeks before 21st June 2009, it's very close to that time of year when it is possible to get a suntan. Wonderful. I'm wondering if anyone has some links/graphs/charts that show this seasonal change and its affect on white pasty skin - and when we should start being careful? Anyone else got some notably early or late memories of acquiring a red neck and arms?
  21. Heavy snow here early this morning - giving a temporary covering that had gone by mid morning. Of course, I witnessed none of it being tucked in bed recovering from too many Guinness last night - but my hubby reliably informs me this was the case...
  22. Aye - sorry Stu, we were discussing it in the Model Thread - so wanted to get this up to date straight away - you'll have to get up earlier!!
