  1. Yeah, a great spectacle in the sky right now. I love evenings like this, gazing up at the sky. Makes you realise just how small and insignificant we are in the universe. Looking forward to some clear, frosty evenings as we head towards and into winter.
  2. Despite a short sharp shower this morning, it has been a decent day with plenty of sunshine. A high of 14.9C. It's still looking dry here for the bulk of tomorrow as well, within daylight hours at least.
  3. A bright start to the day here. Looking like another reasonable weekend coming up for this part of the region at least. Some rain tomorrow, but looks like holding off until the evening here. Another decent weekend for getting out and about.
  4. It was certainly wet at times today. 2 or 3 hours of heavy rain around the middle of the day, a dry period and then two monumental cloudbursts followed on behind around mid afternoon with torrents of surface water. Had some sunshine to end the day.
  5. Not too bad a day here at all with plenty of sunshine at times, a bit of a breeze and certainly not cold with a respectable 17.9C reached.
  6. Yeah, pretty sure that they were only called warnings when amber and that these were only issued when confidence of bad weather was 60% or more. The yellow weather watch would be issued when confidence was less than 60%. Perhaps they should revert back to this terminology for yellow and amber warnings. I do think the probability/impact matrix was a good introduction though.
  7. I was expecting stronger winds first thing this morning. It was a little breezy, but nothing that significant. There has been plenty of rain though today, with persistent moderate/heavy rain until around mid afternoon. Things then brightened up with some sunny intervals late afternoon but then had a torrential shower around 18:00. A great view of the moon just above the horizon whilst I was out for a walk around 30 mins ago.
  8. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure they used to call the yellow ones weather 'watch' rather than 'warning' a few years ago? This may have changed when they brought the probability/impact matrix in.
  9. An overcast, but dry morning here and then the rain moved in early afternoon and was persistent for a couple of hours. A drier interlude now, but looks like further bursts of rain likely on and off throughout the evening and overnight with a windy end to the night.
  10. A superb shepherd's warning red sky this morning. It's had no such bearing on today's weather though which has been another decent day with sunshine at times and variable cloud cover. A high of 16.8C.
  11. A decent day today, dry again and it turned into a really nice afternoon with plenty of sunshine, so after Friday's wet weather, it's been a decent dry weekend here.
  12. It has stayed dry here all day, clouded in for a few hours from late morning but broken cloud now with some sunny periods to end the afternoon. I can see the shower train to my North right now. I think we'll just about avoid these by a whisker.
  13. Unfortunately, they don't make lamp posts like they used to. All downward facing design now and not as good for snow watching at night as when I were a lad.
  14. A lovely start to the day here and dry so far with very few clouds around at the moment. Showers staying well away from here so far. Not too bad a weekend coming up following the miserable weather yesterday. We may see very few showers today, here at least, and then dry tomorrow. Thanks to decidedly cool days and nights over the past week, the house has really cooled down and no longer warming in the daytime appreciably so we did finally put our heating on during this week.
  15. Moderate to heavy bursts of rain here on and off from around late morning, but has all moved away now. 9.8mm of rain has fallen today. Whilst it has been a little breezy, the wind has been nowhere near as strong as I was expecting. Skies now showing signs of brightening from the W/NW.
  16. An overcast start here with a slight breeze. That's quite a mass of rain out West. At least the reservoirs will get a decent top up today.
  17. What a difference a day will make, heavy rain symbols showing all afternoon tomorrow and wind gusts nudging gale force. I don't think I'll be out on my bike tomorrow!
  18. We've managed to dodge all the showers today and with much lighter winds, it's actually felt pleasant, even warm in the sunshine with the temperature markedly up on previous days, hitting 16.7C around mid afternoon.
  19. A much better day today. A chilly, but sunny start to the day with an overnight low of 3.8C, with mist here and there. Although a few clouds have bubbled up, it's stayed mostly sunny all day so far.
  20. Yes, frequent showers were barreling through the Cheshire Gap today and certainly cool out in the showers and brisk North Westerly winds. A max temp of 12.7C. The summer heatwaves are a distant memory now. Getting decidedly cooler in the house now as well with little warming in the daytime and cooler nights.
  21. A cloudy and showery start to the day here with a regular feed of showers from the Irish Sea. A classic case of thinking if only it were at least two or three months further on in the year with this setup as we might of been in business for snow showers.
  22. Some heavy showers first thing this morning, then was mostly dry until around mid afternoon when some further heavy showers arrived. It was quite blustery this morning with gusty winds, but the wind eased off throughout the day, but still gusty around the showers. A high of 14.3C.
  23. Yeah, same here, woke to hear rain rattling against the window in the early hours. A blustery day coming up with showers at times by the looks of it. Strong and gusty winds right now making whistling sounds through the house with showers rattling through.
  24. Cloudy for most of today here and a keen wind, but at least it was dry again. A high of 14.3C. Granted, it was a little cool out in the wind if sitting around doing nothing, but for me it's been fine for walking around and doing outdoor jobs. I was actually thinking how nice it was to be able to do these things without breaking into a sweat, which wasn't the case three or four weeks back.
