  1. Lauren can you make a hole in the fence at the bottom somewhere? Just needs to be big enough for a hog to get through although saying that I also get some going under a fence into my garden (they know where the food is!) Nice hog-house Bobbydog, I'll bear it in mind when my other wooden one rots away! Oh and hogs do have one natural predator - the badger! It's the only natural predator as it is strong enough to rip open a hog which has curled up in self-defence. Personally I've never seen this happen nor do I want to as I love hogs If you do get hogs in your garden then putting a bowl of fresh water down daily will help, especially during hot summers. Hedgehog food can be purchased in pet shops or online which is made so that it doesn't appeal to other animals such as cats. I feed my hogs Go-Cat (Adult) Rabbit, Turkey & Vegetable which they love however I've made a hog-size tunnel in the garden which leads to their food bowl so the cats & foxes can't get in. Do not feed milk, bread or products including fish as it isn't in their natural diet
  2. I foster hedgehogs over winter from a wildlife rescue centre. These hogs are too small to successfully hibernate (under 500g) so to give them their best chance they are rescued, cured of any ills and then fostered by volunteers like me. My two had, until 1 week ago, refused to hibernate - I believe due to the mild weather (although with me feeding them and cleaning them out daily they're spoilt rotten!) They're in a hutch in my garage (so slightly less cold than outdoors) and I am expecting them to break hibernation again soon if this further mild spell continues but will have to wait and see. I also get hogs in my garden but as yet I have not seen any signs of them this year. I have 2 occupied hog houses in the garden and both are currently undisturbed so the hogs inside are hibernating. They always leave me "poo presents" so I tend to know when they're out and about plus I would probably see them in the evenings when I am outside having a cig. I also know that ARG (Amphibian & Reptile Groups) across the UK are asking people to keep an eye out for early frogspawn in ponds and sightings can be recorded here. I have seen frogs in my ponds throughout this "winter" (usually, during a cold winter, I wouldn't) and won't be suprised to see early spawn too! I must admit, one of my main concerns is this prolonged spell of mild winter. I worry that it will confuse nature / wildlife with, for example, pollen-rich plants flowering too early thus ending too early this year - time will tell I guess. Cheers Purplepixii (aka Treehugger, Hog & Frog lover and general Squirrel chaser)
  3. Came across this on the web, apparently happened on Tuesday in Scotland during the storms. Don't know how true it is but made me chuckle! Disclaimer: It contains a naughty word so think before you click
  4. Thanks for the remote Paul, very useful. Is it possible though to get it to show the time as displayed on the top right of the map instead of saying "latest" please? The GFS remote gives the option to animate / not animate plus it also shows the corresponding day, date and run. Is that something that V6 could also have at all please (just time would do)?
  5. lol brilliant! Although I must admit I thought this sort of goal didn't count because the ball needs to be touched by a player other than the goalie before entering the net at the other end?
  6. Have awoken to quite a gusty morning, max gust overnight of 51.8kmh according to weather station. Will be taking a careful drive into college as some trees down according to local radio station :-S
  7. There's been a noticeable increase in wind gust down here in south Hampshire, admittedly not in the range you guys further north are experiencing but noticeable all the same...
  8. I was about to post here and say "yay Paul - I see the remote!!!" which I do but I also agree with Dallas - the "latest" time is showing as 1745 which is over an hour ago. Thanks a million for the remote tho - is there any chance of it showing the day & time like the GFS remote does please? (sorry, didn't want to ask for too much lol)
  9. There really are some muppets out there, this one deserves a Darwin award! He should also be forced to pay the costs of the rescue imo. http://www.bbc.co.uk...pshire-16396073
  10. Rofl that's just how I was feeling about 20 minutes ago! Poor Paul must be run off his feets at the mo
  11. Nice capture Adi - glad no-one was under the tree as it fell! Was the sea state interesting? Whilst it has not really stopped being windy here today I'm now watching my weather station with interest as the gusts are steadily increasing again (latest is 40.9 kmh) which I wasn't expecting having thought it was all over for now!
  12. Squall line been and gone here, was very entertaining with horizontal rain & the sound was deafening! Just gusty wet rain now, think the fun is over but localised flooding will be interesting!
  13. Gust speeds increasing here, just had a 51.4kph / 32mph gust which was noticeable from the noise generated by something unknown crashing around outside! Edit: Wow - just noticed the MO red warning for areas of Scotland - stay safe up there folks!!
  14. Problems here too, putting it down to loads of netweather users online / server problems but hey, poo happens
  15. Have woken to another water leak in the conservatory and a big, heavy (I thought) bag of bottles has been blown over so had to brush up loads of smashed glass from the path grrrr! Biggest gust so far is 29mph and it's mad out there!
  16. Hi Paul I meant I switch from the NW v6 radar tab to a different tab I have open so if that's a security thing then that explains why the animation stops. As Chris says I am also on Firefox 9.0.1 and he has hit the nail on the head with the animation problem I'm experiencing! I loaded it at 17:33 and at the 17:35 update the animation stopped (the "Anim off" button was automatically selected, not by me). The map wasn't animated although it was flashing frequently with 17:35 showing as the latest update time. This continued until the 17:40 and 17:45 updates and has been the same ever since (no animation but "flashing" instead). Is that supposed to happen because if so it means we have to manually select "Anim on" at every 5 minute update...
  17. Lovely image Lorenzo, can I ask where you got it from please?
  18. Hi Paul The animation stops as soon as I change tabs within Firefox to look at something else but is that normal? I'll run it again as the main window today and see how long it lasts and let you know. Re the floating "Show Remote" tool is that feature likely to be implemented? Reason I ask is purely selfish - my screen on this netbook is so small that to see my area (south coast) on the map means moving the screen down and I lose the time counter on the top right hand side of the map
  19. I'm having some problems with the new V6 radar but am conscious that it might be specific to me / my netbook as it's (by design) small & not powerful....? I have a netbook running W7 Starter (SP1) and Firefox 8.0.1 Spec (admittedly low but serves my purposes in class @ college / downstairs @ home) is: Intel Atom CPU N280 @1.66GHz, 2GB RAM, Intel Graphics: 32Bit, 1024x600 These are the settings I use for V6: Show Scale Lightning On Animation On (1hr) And these are the problems I'm experiencing: Animation randomly stops & has to be restarted I really miss the use of the floating tool called "Show Remote" as available on the "GFS key weather charts" radar - is this likely to become available? Postcode Zoom makes the rainfall unpleasantly pixellated. Zooming twice using the + button on the map is just about bearable but basically it appears on my netbook that any zooming in results in awful graphics Any advice gratefully received
  20. Wow, what a miserable start to 2012. It's been raining for hours now, latest gauge reading is 4.3mm and increasing coz it's tipping it down!
  21. Season's greetings to all from me. Hope everyone has a great time and that Santa delivers what people have wished for :winky: In the season of happiness I thought I'd share my new xmas carol with you all - enjoy! *xmas hugs* Purplepixii
