  1. All the forum mods have posed (in various stages of undress) for photographs for the Netweather 2012 calendar? :w00t:
  2. Santa really does exist and everyone who's ever said he doesn't loses their presents & they get sent to me instead?
  3. Has xmas been cancelled? . . (arrghhhh I hate surprises!)
  4. Not much to report here. 18:56 = Pressure 993.1, temp 6.9 20:58 = Pressure 987.9, temp 6.6 23:05 = Pressure 978.9, temp 6.5 Drop of 14.2 over 4 hours and approx 3.5mm rain per hour almost bedtime and not looking forward to rush hour drive if weather is pants >.<
  5. Still raining here, sometimes light, sometimes heavy. Gauge showing 2.2mm so far this hour, temp 6.6oC pressure 987.9
  6. Got wet stuff falling out of the sky at the mo but it's just fat raindrops. Cold out though, temp=6.9, windchill=4.9, pressure 993.1
  7. Just got 'em out of the car, woohoo am looking forward to jumping in "puddles" tomorrow! Thankyou fellow leaky conservatory friend, may you only need 1 bucket and may I "only" need 3 tonight
  8. Holey moley that's makes it very wet here tonight! I better check the buckets in the conservatory are ready to receive more rain
  9. I hadn't seen this but thanks - I guess they will be doing an update seeing as this was from yesterday? (P.S. If that's what weather forecasters look like these days I might make a concerted effort to watch them! :winky: )
  10. Blue sky and sunshine has disappeared here and it's now clouding up plus the wind seems to be gusting whereas it wasn't earlier. Am watching the "wind chill/feels like" temperature on my weather station and in the past 2 minutes it's gone up from 6.2oC to 6.7oC and keeps going up - not noticed it do that before!
  11. Oooh it's tempting to pop out to the coast as I don't see anything from here, guess you are higher up than me with a much better view
  12. Oooh reasonable chance of thunderstorms today! Will try not to get my hopes up (but I can't help being a little optimistic)
  13. It's amazing how often there is more to a story than the public is aware of and the good old public can always be relied on to only hear what they want to hear. Sad but true Does sound like a story to be told down a pub by a roaring log fire over a beer or two!
  14. that's probably very true John but not all of us necessarily "get" the difference which is why it's great when people like you take the time to answer our questions. I don't really remember 1987 and I didn't live on the South Coast then so it's all a bit new to me
  15. thanks for the thread JL, this week's storm is certainly prompting comparisons / questions between the two :o
  16. thankyou for your answer Ian, much appreciated. I only have "schoolgirl French" and I've been looking at their forecasts but couldn't see anything out of the ordinary but then again if they've released a warning similar to our MO I probably wouldn't understand it anyway! I'll just sit back and keep an eye on the forums & forecasts, thanks again
  17. Out of interest after reading that page, in particular the sentence "The French meteorological office used a different computer weather model to the British, and the French model proved more accurate in predicting the severity of the storm in the Channel." do we know what the French are forecasting for Thursday/Friday?
  18. Thankyou all for the answers. These clouds were just so dark, fast moving and started apart but joined together pretty much as I watched them and I was fascinated - I may well have seen them in the past but since I discovered this forum I'm seeing a lot of "everyday" things with a different eye. Talk about a constant learning curve!
  19. Hi again SK, blow them over this way would you please? Just windy rain here today. Oh and johnholmes you're a star - thankyou ever so much for that pdf, very useful for someone like me who has limited weather-related knowledge!
  20. Hiya I saw these clouds this afternoon and I have no idea what they are. My tutor seemed to think they were something "rare" but I have no idea so if someone with more knowledge could let me know what they're called I'd be very grateful. Unfortunately I didn't have a proper camera with me so had to use my phone camera but hopefully they're still identifiable. I did look on the Met Office "Cloud Types" pdf but I couldn't ID them from that. Cheers Purplepixii
