  1. It's definitely the winters of my childhood growing up on Boxhill that have entrenched my love of snow!!! We got a bus down to schools in Dorking so it was often cancelled through fear that it wouldn't make it down or back up the hill later!! I've had lots of pics on Timehop coming up of lots of fun in the snow when the kids were really little 6yrs ago and I so want that again for them! We went back up Boxhill last Jan just for the mere dusting that I knew would be there despite nothing down here!! I don't have much model reading knowledge despite this being my 5th winter on these forums BUT I have managed to learn some rules and some of those are about the upstream signals favouring cold, getting that right first, the models flopping about a bit until they settle on an outcome and not looking for details (ie snow imby) until much closer to the time. I have to say I'm loving that we've nearly covered all of these now but can't help getting secretly excited and thought of some snow, just a bit would be great to see after such a long time and the greatness of the winters that preceeded this recent snow drought!!!xx
  2. Urgh....my beautiful snowy pics from Dec 2009 just came up on my Facebook memories.....sigh.... Just to give me some hope....didn't one of our historic epic winters start with a mild December before plunging into the freezer?! Merry Christmas to everyone here and I hope we all get our our Christmas weather wishes in Jan/Feb!!!xxx
  3. The temps may be classed as mild but that wind felt pretty cold today!!! Still hoping for a surprise pattern change mid December just in time for a snowy Christmas.....well you have to dream big, eh?!xx
  4. Woke up just before 8am to nothing and then it started snowing here in Surrey! Albeit wet, unsettling snow but still snow, falling from the sky in November!!! My 9yr old ran straight outside, just like I would have at his age but I'm a bit slower at coming round in the mornings these days, lol!x
  5. It's felt so cold today whilst out on a walk and just came in from a shirt drive where car thermometer said 4c. According to Meto it's 8c but definitely felt colder than that. Hoping it drops further for a wee dusting tomorrow morning xx
  6. Well I'm excited even just for the prospect of seeing anything more wintry - and whilst still in NOVEMBER, yay!!! After a huge snow drought I'd be more than happy with a few flakes, however I hope these won't be the last we see but then we have a good 3mths plus still to go!!!xx
  7. People have been so burnt in recent years so are resting on their laurels.....that's usually when a big surprise will come from nowhere!!!! (Is my hoping anyway, lol!). Not even a load of ramping about this weekend happening....everyone just like, yeh yeh yeh..... let's see if they get caught out?!x
  8. Loving the RAMPS!!! Would love a nice early dose of winter....as long as it didn't use up all our quota, lol!!x
  9. Just had to get up Boxhill today to experience this fog! The kids loved it and as the sun started to break through it looked absolutely beautiful and warmed up too! As we came back down to go home it was still foggy and dull here. We got out science books out and talked about how fog forms - I'll make weathergeeks out of then yet, haha!x
  10. So having been excited for most of last week at a predicted good week this week for our camping trip it's now looking v unsettled! And what's more the rain is coming up from directly south as we move further south to our campsite in the New Forest! Hoping it's not as bad as some forecasts are predicting! This weekend was fab though! Wish us luck, camping with a 15mth old for the first time plus our other two!!!x
  11. Hahaha well whaddaya know?!!! Hubby told me it was snowing but I didn't think much of it cos I could hear drops like rain too so thought it was probably just sleet....snoozed for another 20mins then had to take a look and it's very white out there! Missed it falling tho Definitely unexpected!xx
  12. Wow! What's the asl of Reigate Hill Plum? Wondering if it's worth a trip up to Boxhill again which is about 275 I think?x
  13. Consistant sleet here....so gutting to think that just a small shift in temps and this would all be falling as snow Oh well, hoping for some more surprise 'pop up' snow showers over the next week!x
  14. I'm not expecting much but then i didn't on Monday night either xxx
  15. I don't own a weather station but having been stuck under a poorly, sleeping baby on the sofa for the last 1.5hrs and with no heating on, I can tell you that the temperature has definitely dropped here in Epsom, lol! I'm freezing!!! Loving the cuddles but desperately want a hot cuppa and to turn that heating up!!! Gutted that we're finally gonna be getting an easterly but with not much ppn!!! Even the Express are calling it 'Beast from the East' - they sooo read NW Forums!!xx
  16. At 4am we had a dusting but 3hrs later a good covering, yay! Gutted the school's still open x
  17. Forecast saying light snow from 3am - 8am tomorrow for here...so may wake to a pretty dusting x
  18. Sooo pleased we got up early and made the effort to get up Boxhill yesterday morning, at just under 300asl it only had a couple of cm but was v pretty and the kids could sledge and build a small snowman! I grew up there in the 80's so you can see where my obsession started Maybe I should move back there cos as Steve said, just that little bit more elevation makes all the difference! We did have snow at 2am this morning that was settling but had stopped by 3am - having a baby keeping you awake allows you to see these things!!!xx
  19. Boxhill had a lovely sledge-worthy covering! Kids loved it! Love the contrast of the green snow-less fields below!xx
  20. Assume this means it's colder here in the east, hence snow....any chance temps would stay lowered because of already snowing?x
  21. Woken to a surprise pretty dusting here in Epsom this morning! Gutted that we're forecast rain all day when it could've been snow given the hype about this cold spell.... however my first thought was to get up Boxhill today, lol!x
