Purga, while i agree nothing sustained cold shows in the 18z, look at the NH view at +240....... it screams potential Really don't understand some of the downbeat posts, from what is being potentially shown, but just being dismissed completely.

Well I think the Strat effect would need to be given a bit off time to filter down? n any case the Strat warming is still really only showing up at the 10 day mark at 10hpa, would like to get it in the reliable

5.3mm today so far and that all fell pretty much in the space of an hour. I am now at 193.4mm for January, 200mm should easily be broken imby this month

I know people are going to be holding back in shouting the cold is coming etc, after all the ECM has lead us up the garden path more than once this winter, and we have endured a pretty dismal winter thus far, as far as cold goes . I am one of those who want to remain open minded. BUT this is by far our best opportunity this winter, we have the right ingredients for cold, The Vortex is weakening and a split is expected, Europe is finally cooling down, Heights are rising over the Pole, possible ridging in the Atlantic and even linking with the polar Heights, even signs of the Strat warming. Now I know none of this guarantees our little island Cold, but we have a damn good shot at getting it now, I'm fully expecting some real eye candy runs in the near future, we need to take them a run at a time, I'm optimistic our patience will be rewarded and soon!

I think you'll find the Meto will always urge on the side if caution when doing extended forecasts, but to say deep cold flat won't be on the cards for Feb 1st half, doesn't really carry any weight if you ask me. Looks very much like sitting on the fence. We know all know from the current setup that anything is possible now, from deep cold, to mild! I'm personally convinced February will be below average temperature wise, with opportunities for sustained and deep cold. Initially from the North, then Eventually the east. Albeit just my opinion of course

Looking at the radar to the south, looks like Purbeck could be in line for that shower activity, about 1pm I reckon
