  1. The GFS also regularly underestimates maximum temperatures, so a few degrees higher than shown may well be possible (not that it would be necessary, already nicely warm). A gorgeous spell of proper summer weather, so good to not be depressed by howling winds and cool, cloudy crap!
  2. 27C here now, some fair weather cloud but still mostly sunny and little wind. BBQ time
  3. Now this is what I call a summers day. Clear skies, hardly any wind and 25C already. Bliss!
  4. A very pleasant day here, bit of a breezy and cloudy morning but as the day progressed it became sunnier and warmer. Max temperature of 24C.
  5. The 6th August 1981 saw huge storms across much of the SE that gave daytime darkness, flooding, loads of lightning damage etc. I remember that event and was terrified but also excited. That storm was the one that started my interest, there were similar storms in 1983 or 1984 I think, then another early 1990's.
  6. Yes Norfolk and Lincolnshire have done better in recent years, as has E Kent lol. But London, not so good. There have been a few storms around of course, but nothing like decades past. Hopefully will 'reset' back to how it used to be, soon!
  7. Definitely nothing like that here. The first major thunderstorm that I vividly remember was in 1981, that got me obsessed with the weather in general. Thunderstorms have always held a particular fascination and excitement, so I do have quite good memories of them. Having lived in the same area most of my life so far, I've noticed a huge decrease in thunderstorms here over the last 10-15 years. Before that, they were frequent in summer, many were just regular storms of short duration but we had a lot of spectacular all nighters in the 80's and 90's and several daytime darkness events with news reports of people being struck by lightning quite commonplace.
  8. Storms have become so rare this last 10-15 years. It's like a switch was flipped and exciting weather just disappeared. Though I am thoroughly looking forward to the forecast strong sunshine and warmth.
  9. Beautiful morning, followed by an hour or so of cloud as the cold front moved through. Back to sunny skies and feeling pleasantly warm at 23C, despite the howling wind making an unwelcome return.
  10. Gorgeous morning here, sunny from the start and light winds, currently 22C.
  11. About time we had a decent hot spell in June, many recent ones have been seriously underwhelming. Although 36C is a little too hot lol, though think of the thunderstorms when that breaks down....! As I understand it from the Model thread, the background signals favour more of an ECM solution than a GFS one. Happy days if so. Will be watching with interest. Nice day here, currently 24C with quite a lot of cloud about but also sunny spells, the wind has thankfully remained light.
  12. After a glorious morning here the inevitable infill has bubbled up somewhat, but still some decent sunny spells and average temperatures of 21C. The main thing of note is the absence of the howling gale with just a light E'ly breeze. Hallelujah!!
  13. Yes, the GFS run is utterly vile after the coming weekend, am praying it's wrong....
  14. Exactly, same here. Every year for the last 10-15 years or so we've seen charts with plenty of potential, which have 98% of the time turned into a damp squib or a Kent clipper. Yawn.
  15. Hopefully that'll come off. It's back to crappy, largely cloudy and windy rubbish here, we've hit the heights of 18C. Yippee.
  16. I'd say the BBC are on the money, the GFS consistently underestimates maximum temperatures by a good 3-4C for the UK.
  17. Quite a pleasant morning here, the cold front seems to have moved through and left partly cloudy skies with plenty of sunny breaks. Still breezy of course but mild at 20C currently.
  18. The cloudier skies have just arrived here, such an annoyance as it was absolutely lovely. 23C currently with a strong breeze blowing.
  19. 22C here now and lovely clear skies, despite the wind it feels warm.
  20. It looks like it might be the start of a new trend. GFS run is not great with high pressure way out in the Atlantic, leading to a period of chilly NW winds with regular instances of cloud and rain.
  21. Quite a pleasant morning here with plenty of sunshine. Still breezy but quite warm, 19C currently. Could be a very nice day IF the cloud stays away.
  22. After some early sunshine, the day is going rapidly downhill with overcast skies, blustery winds and feeling cool. Yawn.
  23. Another crap day here, feeling very autumnal with wind, drizzle, gloomy skies and just 17C.
  24. A better day here than yesterday (not difficult) but still pretty poor with a very gusty wind and an underwhelming max of 20C so far.
