  1. Sounds like lots of work, usual story unfortunately when you take on allotment but it’s great to see it take shape. Plus it’s fantastic exercise. Are you taking photos? To have a greenhouse is like winning the lottery Best of luck with it all, nothing tastes like homegrown! It snows here every winter, multiple times, though it doesn’t last as long as it used to before the climate started changing. Nice to still have fairly defined seasons, though. Mid-late Autumn here has been a bit of a disappointment this year, loads of rain and very few instances of the weather types I like. Hopefully something more exciting/enjoyable/interesting to come
  2. Ooh, an allotment, very exciting! Hope it’s going well, usually it’s a lot of hard work taking one over as they’re in a bit of a state. Had two allotments for a number of years, am definitely not an expert lol, but I picked up quite a lot of knowledge from other allotment holders and from personal experience. Happy to chat whenever The book below by John Harrison is so good, easy to read, humorous and packed full of useful information. Weather-wise, it’s a beauty of a day here in Czechia, sunny, barely any breeze and currently 13°C, after a light frost this morning. I can see the mountains bordering eastern Germany and Poland in the distance and they have had their first snowfall
  3. It’s feeling very autumnal over the last week or so (at least to me) with so much rain, both in the UK and Czechia. Hoping for something quieter for a while, sunnier by day and frosty/misty/foggy by night. Had enough wind and rain already, thanks
  4. Looking at pics and videos from the Channel Islands and northern France, we really dodged a bullet! Thankfully Feel sorry for people in those areas, what a nightmare. That house wrecked by the tornado is crazy. I do enjoy exciting weather but that’s on another scale.
  5. Very fine margins here, it currently looks like away from the immediate south and southwest coasts, the majority of the UK might well dodge this nasty storm. Fingers crossed, with many trees still in full leaf and the ground saturated, it’s quite worrying.
  6. Spent this weekend in London celebrating my 50th birthday, brilliant weekend apart from the sodding weather!
  7. Back home to Czechia just for the weekend, had an interesting sunset yesterday with a bright salmon coloured light. After an atmospheric, chilly and foggy start this morning, it’s now beautifully sunny and should reach 20°C. Wow
  8. Quite unpleasant weather in west London of late, yesterday was very wet indeed and looks like plenty more rain to come this month. Interesting if you’re a duck , I suppose, otherwise am hoping for something a bit more sunny and settled with some decent fog
  9. Arrived back in London to a very pleasant autumn day, if rather windy. Sunny and 15°C
  10. First frost of the season here, everything white but the temperature is hovering a couple of degrees above freezing now. A nice sunny start before I fly back to London for work
  11. Yes, deep joy. I’ve found wearing a beanie/woolly hat indoors (despite looking like a plonker) really helps me feel much warmer
  12. Another beautiful sunny morning here, chilly at 5°C. Yesterday was nice until later in the afternoon when some showers arrived. The wind went a bit mental and was absolutely freezing, so I gave up weeding and scurried inside. Interesting charts for the week, though there could well be some flooding issues unfortunately. Nice to see a Scandi high setting up, too early of course, but will this be a recurring feature of winter?
  13. The warmer air has been swept away here by an active cold front that gave a brief period of heavy rain and strong winds yesterday. Chilly start today at 6°C but with a beautiful blue sky and sunshine, though the W’ly wind is picking up in strength now
  14. That’s a good thing about the cooler months, the stars are often more visible. A very bright planet is rising in the eastern sky every evening, is it Jupiter? Was so bright last night
  15. Amazing. You can see the long cold front joining up to the next frontal systems/depression to the W-SW of the UK. Am still on the warm side of the front here in Czechia. Was a beautiful sunny day yesterday, reached 24°C. Cloudier today but still mild, but then looking much colder next week. End of next week has highs of just 7°C with overnight frosts. Autumn certainly can often be quite dramatic and interesting
  16. Yes, next week looking very chilly, after decent amounts of lovely warm autumn sunshine. Some useful rain, too. Hopefully there’ll be some foggy and frosty nights, any excuse to put the log burner on
  17. 24°C forecast here today, then 3 more warm days before a massive cool-down. Next week looking positively chilly with the first frosts Should be sunny and crisp, too
  18. True, more continental climates are far better for autumn colours. We have been lucky occasionally, quite spectacular when it happens.
  19. Very autumnal day here with spells of quite heavy rain and felt chilly at 15°C. Put the log burner on this evening, heavenly!
  20. Felt very autumnal here today with chilly temperatures, lots of cloud and a short spell of rain.
  21. Started off very pleasant here in Czechia with sunny skies but rapidly clouding over now with a very blustery breeze. 20°C currently. Looks very nice back in west London, 22°C and sunny
  22. Like a bit of snow myself, but chilly wind and rain ain’t much fun. I’d be fine with cold sunny days and foggy, frosty nights in November, though
  23. Yeah, I wish it was 13°C, chucking it down, blowing a hoolie and sunless Er, no thanks, it’s been lovely and I’ve got so much work done outside. Everyone I know is loving it
  24. Beautiful, sunny autumn day here, after a chilly (9°C) start, it should reach 19°C today. Next 7-10 days look very pleasant, maximum temperatures between 15-22°C and overnight lows of 5-12°C.
