  1. I have posted those stats in this thread and updated them a couple of times.
  2. We couldn't even manage a totally dry day today. It is turning into the winter equivalent of autumn 2000 and summer 2012. Horrendous.
  3. Just rain maybe sleet. We couldn't even manage a completely dry day today. How bad is it this winter?
  4. Is it zonal?Zonal to me is the movement of weather systems from west to east. It looks to me especially ECM , a huge cyclonic block in the North Atlantic with daughter lows running under the parent low but nothing is moving from west to east. Hence why we are not getting any northerly topplers and brief ridges between systems. It's not good and reminds me of January 1937.

  6. May could even be more wintrier than this January in terms of snow and frost!
  7. With January nearly over, it wouldn't take much for April to be more wintrier than January. One day of lying snow, a handful of frosts.
  8. Oh boy, I remember that well, I think it was Daniel Corbett. An ill thought out comment when temperatures were totally irrelevant considering the death, damage and chaos there was.
  9. There have not even been those this winter, that's how bad it has been.

  11. I remember the chilly anticyclonic frosty spell before Christmas 2007, the very short lived easterly in early January 2008 that brought snow flurries and a polar NWly that brought snow showers and a snow cover here at the end of that January. This winter is worse than both 2006-07 and 2007-08 at this stage because there hardly been any frost let alone snow.Even late February 2002, I saw snow and a cover in a polar maritime airmass. There were some disruption in Scotland because of it.
  12. Last occasion I saw two consecutive air frosts was 25th and 26th November! It's February this weekend! Even by this stage in 1988-89, 1989-90, 1997-98 and 2006-07, I have seen more air frosts than this winter ie 1st December to now.

  14. An article I wrote on it.http://www.ukweatherworld.co.uk/forum/index.php?/topic/49264-the-mildest-winter-on-record-and-the-spring-that-followed/Depends on how mild February turns out but I can't see breaking it.
  15. I'm glad you added that last caveat because there are examples of mild Decembers and Januaries being followed by colder Februaries.Such as 1872-3, 1905-06, 1929-30, 1931-32, 1982-83, 1993-94. There have been winters such as 1882-83, 1936-37 having notably wintry Marches after mild Januaries and Februaries. The best hope for snow lovers I can give if you want to see at least a notable wintry spell before the end of the season is something like winter 1936-37 which was a very wet winter, a bit like this current one. That had a Scandi block at the end of that January which brought a brief wintry blast before the Atlantic returned.
  16. 4.8C It could be the rainfall totals that are the talking about than the CET.
  17. I wrote winter off three days before even when I know the possibility of late season cold spells from historical records.
  18. February 1998 wasn't actually that bad, it was if you wanted a lot of cold or snow but at least for England and Wales, it was a dry month, which is what is needed. What is not wanted is a February 1990, which although was exceptionally mild was also exceptionally wet.

  20. Well you can't have experienced many of them if that is your threshold. Your avatar says Manchester, I live to the west of the conurbation and those type of snowfalls and to last that long are rare to say the least around here.
