  1. Found this online

Diamond dust occurs when there is a winter temperature inversion -- with the air coldest near the ground and a warmer, moister layer of air lying over it. The diamond dust forms when the warmer air blends with the colder, and the moisture it contains condenses out in the colder air, freezing into tiny motes of ice. These fine motes drift and sparkle, and eventually settle out, making them a type of precipitation as well as mist.

Another thing I experienced in December 2010. The best month ever!

  2. Too much red mine mate..I remember the Dec 18th snowfall here....disrupted everything over a 2 hour period of snow...However in London i cant remember it falling after that...anyone remember different?...was very very cold though until Xmas day. Today in my opinion has been fantastic and should be remembered for its longevity of snowfall....11 hoursbiggrin.png

I was actually living in Sittingbourne at the time and I remember it began snowing on the Monday and didn't stop until the Friday. I think we picked up a North Sea streamer. It was the most snow I have seen in my life and the coldest temperatures I have ever experienced (-14 degrees).

  3. To be honest today has been fantastic.....Not sure it gets near 1991 or 1987 but to me it beats 2010 for continuous snowfall,,,2010 had a 2 hour battering...ok as it stayed cold we retained some snow...But to get 11 hours of CONTINUOUS light, moderate, light, moderate, heavy, moderate, light snow from 8am until 7pm in London is remarkable.....Loved todaybiggrin.png ...cracking open another red to celebrate...sod work tmw!

December 2010 was the best month of weather I have ever experienced. At one point it snowed for 5 days without stopping!
