Snow cover beginning to melt on cars and roads etc. now with temps at +0.5degC
-
The wind has really started gusting strongly here, the lying snow is blowing around into a mini blizzard!
-
Just been out with the ruler and there's a level 11cm on top of the cars, I think that beats what we had last time and is certainly at the top end of what I was expecting out of the mini Beast ?
Stay safe you guys under the heavy stuff moving across.

Latest Hirlam keeps it going across our region tonight:

Still managing to snow here even though it's gradually fizzling out on the radar.
Temp now up to 0degC even though it was forecast to be -2 right now, consequences are that it's turning slushy on the lane.
I think the ice warning for tonight will need to be taken notice of!

A QUICK ROUND UP
Excellent analysis again David, very much how I see it progressing too.
I will be keeping an eye out later to see how the snow coming across from the continent aligns itself, could be another surprise as you mention!

Morning all. Woke up to around a good 4 inches of level snow this morning, had been pretty windy overnight to so excpect there are some good drifts around!
Looks like we've had the best of the heavier stuff here now although I notice the Meto app has picked up the snow the short range models have for this evening at last.
Once again the Hirlam has been spot on so I think you guys to the west can expect a long period of heavy snow today

Think we've got around 5cm of level snow now but it's too cold to go out and check even in my fleece lined PJs
Hopefully everyone will get in on the act overnight and during the day. Certainly looks as though things are developing nicely as per @Bring Back1962-63s recent excellent post.
The Hirlam has been good again for me in modelling things fairly accurately. Here's where we should be in a couple of hours time with the heavy stuff right over me
Time to turn in now, I think the grandkids who are here on a sleepover, may be up early!
Night all.

I notice the Arpege also has that band of snow coming across Sunday evening as well. Will be very interesting to see if the short range models are correct

Had quite a bit of steady snow all evening and everything looks well covered now.
Looks like the small low or whatever you want to call it is forming between the IoW and Brighton so hopefully that will push inland up to maybe the M4 before beginning its journey West which is pretty much where the Hirlam placed it.
Interesting that the Meto still doesn't seem to be interested in the Sunday evening snow the Hirlam has been showing for a few runs now.

Steady snow here and everything has a 1-2cm covering including roads.
Looking at the radar this could keep going for a long time. If it keeps up at this rate could easily make 10 cm level snow by morning!
-
Our broadband is still out so relying on mobile signal. Heavier snow has now reached us from the east and is beginning to cover everything.
Bottle of Shiraz opened ready for an evenings radar watching

is that the stuff set to hit tonight?
The Hirlam shows that building across West the first part of the night, then the more persistent stuff is due to build from the south later in the night.

A step through the latest entire HIRLAM run at a more leisurely pace.
Shows the developments overnight very well but as others have mentioned, the snow later on tomorrow is not being forecast by the Meto at this time. One to watch!

Steady light snow here, temp -1degC but not heavy enough to settle.
-
Disaster! A strong gust has bought down a large tree branch in the lane and knocked out my phone and broadband.
Hope my dodgy 4g signal can hold up to me radar watching later
-
It does seem on the radar that that area of snow to the north of London is growing nicely and moving steadily ESE to me.
-
Just about stopped here now, leaving a slight covering. Just goes to show how 'primed' the atmosphere is for snow this weekend I think.
Eyes now to the east to see how far that really heavy stuff now getting across to Cambridge can make it towards us.
Then later tonight it will be eyes to the south to see if the more organised snow materialises and where it tracks.
A very interesting day weather wise!

Been snowing steadily for an hour or so now. Light covering on grass surfaces already ?
-
Just starting to snow here, a few flakes blowing in the wind.
Temp now down to 1.6degC
Really must get myself a proper weather station this year, any recommendations?

I like the sound of Bring Back1962-63\s quasi-stationary troughs. This means there's a higher chance that the precip will keep coming and dumping snow on us.
I really hope I'm wrong, but we 'northerners', in England anyway as opposed to the Welsh contingent, look too be just to far North for most of the action!

The overnight HIRLAM really shows most of our area getting a lot of snow tomorrow. Not so much for us up in the NE but certainly for the West Country. I notice that it's also now showing a new disturbance zipping across later on Sunday now as well....

Quite a line of cloud trailing back across to the East which hopefully will feed our snow machine this evening:
