Winter Cold

Haha yes Andy! My mum's already txt me from Crosspool saying it's a blizzard up there! I'm gutted lol

Rain here in Rotherham and was raining in Sheffield when I left. Another bust! Still to see a snow flake this bloody winter....

Yeah just been checking the met office website for local forecast and its a little underwhelming so far. Not much in the way of snow showing up. Of course its nice to finally be in a long cold spell and things always pop up so I'm still hopeful . Tuesday could still be interesting ?️

I'm just glad things are cooling down nicely from tomorrow as far as the eye can see. I hope we don't see above 5c until March now! Its possible lol. After an awful winter so far things are changing for the better. Lots of snow chances to come over the next few weeks I think, perhaps a slight covering tomorrow evening even. Friday a possibility too and still a good chance Tuesday could see our first big snow event of the winter here in Yorkshire! Fingers crossed ?️

The wind is very strong today, very gusty and squally! Worst ive seen it here for a good while. I agree there should be a warning out, I bet passengers trying to land a Leeds Bradford will agree with me this afternoon lol

Hi Its very volotile in the mod thread at the moment, almost as much as the models themselves haha! Still looks good for us in Yorkshire to turn cold from about next Thursday and hopefully staying cold thereafter! A chance that things could get a little less cold for a while but im hopefull we will see the last of the mild tomorrow for a very long time. As for snow, well no one can say this far out but a chance these slider lows coming in could deliver for Yorkshire. Lots to keep us all interested anyway and its so nice to have some fun weather watching to look forward too

yes im feeling confident we will finaly see winter soon! It cant come quick enough now after the most boring, dull December and first half of January I can remember. I wish it was next Friday already!!

Yes things looking a little better now after a few weeks of awful model output and equally awful stagnant weather through Dec. Let's hope we are rewarded for our patience with this winter so far!

I managed to find out 2 pics I took from 26/12/14; here's Crosspool, Sheffield on boxing Day night just as it was stopping:

I remember this well! It was chucking it down initially, then turned to snow in a very short space of time. Got deep quickly. We were out for a family meal and got there ok in the rain and then it all went crazy and because it was marginal it was those big sticky flakes that built up quickly. Lasted a few days after too

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you are all having a safe and happy day. Let's hope January brings us some snow. Was nice to see a hard frost on the car last night but unfortunately even that had melted by the morning! Let's hope next year brings us what we crave ?️

Temps rising fast now. Been 0c all day and now up to 6c. Always strange when it's an overnight rise I feel!

Sausage, think of the atmosphere like a sponge cake, so viewed side on there are lots of layers such as the bottom sponge, then jam, then cream and then more sponge. In the atmosphere if any one of those layers is above 0c then it will melt the snow from higher up and it can't then be turned back in to it. The bottom layer where we are can still be cold, as it is today but of course we just then get the melted snow ie rain.

Just a shame there's a warm layer up there somewhere! Radar looks pretty good and its only 0.1c here so under normal circumstances it would be a great blizzard

Nothing to report in Rotherham in the end. Ahh well. Met had to issue warning as it really was nowcast and seems some places have seen it but pretty localised in the end for freezing rain. Could have been worse.

Cool pic though! It's such a strange thing. And rare in the UK. Even Keeley said on look North yesterday in all her years she's hardly seen it and certainly not an amber warning for it before

Yep just a case of looking out the window now this afternoon. Not sure how accurate immediate forecast is on meto website, but you'd hope the best in the world would get the next few hours right lol. I have heard that the website doesn't have human input though

Yeah true, there's just no way of knowing until the main stuff gets here later this afternoon. Fingers crossed the front peps up a bit. Would just be nice to see some falling snow, haven't seen a flake yet lol
