  1. Snowing all afternoon , a covering of about 1cm , temp now -0.1c but raining ...i'm confused
  2. Strange BBC forecast .. snow now until 5pm then sleet up until 8pm and then snow again
  3. Saw 3 snow flakes fall ,then nothing ...that's winter done for here then
  4. -4.6c overnight and a sharp frost, turned cloudy earlier on but now sunny again and temp at -0.5c ...not expecting any snow here later ,probably sleet at best.
  5. You're probably correct , but i'll clutch at the straw
  6. The GEM 12Z is by far the best for coldies, the Atlantic never really breaks through and then the HP to the east re-asserts itself ,granted it's in the minority but given the last few days of model switching who's to say it won't be the right one!!
  7. No doubt the weekend will be cooler ,but as for the so called 'Cold Spell' the whole thing has been extremely disappointing ,Rain again today , temps at 5c, can't believe the BBC are still talking about the bitter cold ,I was in Sweden over new year and daytime temps were about -3-4c and at night down to -10c, that is a cold spell , it got even colder after we left...I think we've become soft and too used to mild damp rubbish

  9. I know he said we're gonna have the coldest night time temperatures for a few years , sounds promising
  10. I am by no stretch of the imagination an expert , in fact I'm pretty much a novice despite my 54 years, however one piece of advice(not sure who from , might be Mr Holmes) I have picked up over the years of visiting this forum is not to follow every single model release , the GFS 00z & 12z can be complete polar(no pun intended) opposites to the 06z & 18z due to the amount of raw data that is fed into them,I tend to take more notice of the 00z & 12z than the 06 & 18z(pub run), I find this helps to spot subtle changes and follow a pattern easier, also I find that they give more mid term accuracy . That's just an opinion and I may be wrong
  11. Tomas Schafenaker has tweeted that it it's not going to be that cold and then it will turn milder at the end of the week...
  12. The GFS 18z keeps the cold over the country as far out as 180hrs which is a lot longer than the 12z,I try to keep optimistic but the 18z is not known as the pub run for nothing , just hope the 00z verifies ,then we can all relax a bit.
  13. It's been that wet & warm here my grass is still growing , that is unheard of.
  14. Arrived back in England on Tuesday after spending the new year in Western Sweden (where Winter has arrived) , to be welcomed by some amazing synoptic charts however as is often the case things seem to have gone a bit pear shaped. The GFS 06z is a slight improvement on the 00z which does give some cause for optimism , however if the 12z doesn't follow suit then i'll not be putting the shorts and tee-shirts away just yet.
  15. Returned on Tuesday night from a Great 6 days in West Sweden where the temperatures were sub zero for most of the time and even some light snow, to another mildish wet dull NW England,The snow hasarrived in Sweden over the past couple of days, just wish we could get some now here . Bright and cool here but not exactly cold
  16. Yes , why is it still not up , so far it's only upto +75
  17. Let's hope the METO launch their own weather channel on cable/satellite. Ridiculous decision , the Meto Is by far the most accurate
