Never seen so much hype when ensemble mean is showing -2 uppers, what is clear to an unbiast viewer there are 2 issues. 1. Trough that slides down to Portugal pushing ahead high pressure from Greece-Turkey to central/east Europe cutting of Easterly pronto. 2.Attempt at -NAO later engages Scandi trough with Portuguese one forcing west based -NAO later putting America in to freezer yet again!

Agreed, I have seen yet again comparisons to 2010 along other years, as well as "Beast From The East"

I can assure that this upcoming cooler spell isn't that.

If you're expecting widespread snowfall, ice days and the like I hate to say that you will be disappointed.

At the same time, we have got some good building blocks so we will have our chances of getting more colder weather.

It's been asked every year, but unfortunately it's not a popular choice (but I do agree with you).  I'm sitting here wondering why we're discussing the possibility of cold at 16 days out...I get the 'trends' argument, but every year it's the same formula.

384hr "BFTE v.2" -> 264hr "MetO and ECM must come on side" -> 240hr "GFS is rubbish" -> 168hr "winter is over"

Couldn't of agree more with this, yes there are promising trends for colder weather and perhaps snow.

However it's not even in the semi reliable time frame, if we truly want a chance of getting this cold weather it has to get into the reliable time frame.

We have seen time and time again what happens with these "trends" bit hopefully this year will be different.

  3. The Final Text and has been agreed too.

Unfortunately even though there was quite a large push from countries like the UK,European Union,US and India to phase out/down all fossil fuels it wasn't enough.

Russia, Iran and Saudi Arabia to name a few pushed back on this.

The result? It's the same as last year's COP26 with it being a phase down with coal.

However, a historical first is being that a Loss And Damage Fund will be created, some countries have been calling this for years if not decades.

Oh well, that's it then for winter!!

Not necessarily, the reality is that The 2010 Winter was a exceptionally rare event.

People expecting something like that this year are going to be a very disappointed.

Our Climate is changing to a more warmer and wetter here in this country, that's not to say that they won't be cold winters but it's going to be incredibly rare at this rate.
