Oh boy! With all the window watching and radar watching today, I hadn't even checked the UKMO high resolution model.
It still gives light precip over the Midlands at 5am, so that's another 8 hours of precip to go and then it gives a reload with a heavier band at 9am, that is still snow, not rain!! This could turn out to be a memorable event

.I must say it makes up for the times in the past and we know when we’ve been literally 06z away from a dumping and all went tits up
Loving it is me Andy
By the way our names ( Andrew ) in Latin form means … Warriors
Does it? Love that SNOW WARRIORS

I think for us Midlanders, we have 2 bites at the cherry to see some of this snow settle.
Tonight, once it gets dark, I would expect some of it to start sticking for quite a few of us. Not expecting anything major, 2-5cm possible, but better than nothing! Then, the second bite at the cherry comes on Friday morning when the low starts to move away and drag the colder air South again. Looks a lot less marginal when that happens as well. So Friday morning could potentially be better for us.

If you watch the radar, even the stuff coming in from Wales is losing its intestiy now. Been nice to see the snow but a little disappointed to not get any accumulations at all.
That should pep it as it moves across. Patience my fellow Leicesterian

I'm hopeful that when darkness falls, us Midlanders will start to see it settle a bit more.

sleet here, just making everything wet. The last weather report I saw on TV didn't have accumulations here so I am not expecting anything,
it doesn't even feel particularly cold.
I swear you are so unlucky when it comes to snow in your location I used to joke about the Leicester snow shield back in the day, but Stratford takes the biscuit! I think you'll see it turn to snow as darkness falls. We have had snow falling here for 3 hours now but none settling. It's nice to see it fall, but also frustrating. Makes you wonder how much would have accumulated by now if had all settled

Coming down alot heavier in Hinckley now but not settling. Ground very wet. Not even settling on grass or hedges
Coming down heavier in Ratby as well. We've got a slight bit of elevation up here compared to Leicester City Centre. The house i'm in is around 120m ASL. Still no sign of settling but I think we have a better chance when darkness arrives.

Been snowing here in Leicester for around 2 hours now. Zero has settled Hope it does later tonight. Gutting to see it fall and not settle.

Tell you what, that band of precip is steaming in! It's already reached South Wales I'd expect it to be in Birmingham by 6am!

This could well be a memorable few days for us lot in the midlands, I’d say if you have height on your side then it’s looking very promising. Can you imagine though if it’s all wet out there for days with just a few flakes in the rain. Let’s hope that not the case.
im ready for a good snowy blast and then spring with some strong sun please
Mate, i'll flip my lid if all we get from this now is rain and a hint of sleet

West Midlands weather forecast
Tuesday 7 Mar - Saturday 11 Mar
Headline:
Clear skies overnight, allowing for a widespread frost. This Evening and Tonight:
Turning dry with clear skies developing this evening. Temperatures quickly fall away leading to a widespread frost. Cloud however will increase across the south towards dawn. Minimum temperature -4 °C.Wednesday:
A frosty start with some early morning brightness in the north. Otherwise, a largely dry, cold, and cloudy day with the odd wintry flurry possible in the south. Maximum temperature 5 °C.Outlook for Thursday to Saturday:
Bands of rain, sleet, and snow, accompanied by strong winds will move in during Thursday, before gradually clearing Friday. Turning less cold by Saturday, with rain arriving later.Updated: 16:00 (UTC) on Tue 7 Mar 2023. Their extended outlook doesn't look good ither even though we had an ssw i know it doesn't bring cold and snow to the UK all the time but the 2 ssw we had i would of thought it would give us 1 good snow event. This is their extend outlook al though they do mension low confident in the forecast.
UK long range weather forecast
Sunday 12 Mar - Tuesday 21 Mar
On Sunday, cold conditions are likely for central and northern areas at first, with further snow showers in the far north. Cloud, with rain and snow is expected to move north-east from the southwest through the day. Strong winds are likely in the west and southwest, but light winds, at least initially, in the east and northeast. Temperatures will become milder from the southwest. For the rest of the period, milder conditions are likely in most parts of the country, although some potentially colder conditions clinging on in the far north, with isolated sleet and snow showers at times. Heavy rain and a risk of strong winds are possible in the west and south. Temperatures generally around average through the period, with the exception perhaps of the far north.Updated: 14:00 (UTC) on Tue 7 Mar 2023
Wednesday 22 Mar - Wednesday 5 Apr
Confidence remains fairly low during this period, with a lot of uncertainty. However, in general it's likely to be drier further north, apart from occasional wintry showers, while rain and strong winds are more likely to be more of a feature in the south, with a low risk of snow at times, mainly on the boundary between these two regimes. Milder conditions may extend north periodically. Temperatures overall mainly around average, with milder spells in the south and colder spells in the north.Updated: 15:00 (UTC) on Tue 7 Mar 2023.
I'd be amazed if the West Midlands only saw 'a mostly dry, cloudy and cold day'. The majority of the West Midlands will see some snow tomorrow, in my opinion.

Amber warning? No chance
If the GFS and UKMO charts are to believed. There would widely be 5-10cm+ in a sweet spot somewhere in that band. I expect them to update it for the forecast on the news this evening.

i'm sure I remember a similar thing happening around 17 years ago, and I think it was you and me and some other who stayed up all night watching the radar on the BBC forum, only for it to miss us by around 10 miles?
Sounds about right mate I can remember scenario's like that happening a few times back in the day! Just hope we at least see a few cm's here tomorrow!

Looking good for Central Southern England tomorrow! The 12z has moved the band slightly further North. I can see Oxfordshire and Berkshire getting a pasting. 10cm+ wouldn't surprise me in the slightest for those areas.
Hoping for selfish reasons that it moves another 30 miles North before tomorrow to put Leicester in a better position, but i'll take a couple of cm's at this stage

Oh boy! The latest model run (12z) has shifted the band for tomorrow slightly further North. Leicester is right on the edge though. Going to be a very close run thing for my location Could even be a case of Market Harborough getting a pasting and Leicester and Loughborough with a sugar dusting! Hoping for a further 30-50 mile shift North before tomorrow. That would put Leicester in the firing line.
