    Oh God yes, so depressing. I've had a major case of the cantbearseditis and have done nothing productive all week. Going to the cinema tomorrow to watch Ghost Stories to cheer myself up.

    Wet snow (decent size flakes) falling in Brum city centre right now alongside rain. Don't expect it to settle as it's too warm and wet.

    I'm pretty sure that the winds we've had tonight were much stronger than the 34mph gusts predicted by MetO. Strong enough to vibrate the walls of the flat.

    Man, temperature has really dropped noticeably in the last hour or two.

    Snowing heavily in Brum city centre. Wind is so strong outside the flat it's just blowing horizontally past the window!

    Is a secondary cold pool still on the cards at this point? I seem to remember it being mentioned in the MOD thread in relation to another (smaller?) SSW?

    You're not alone! Have posted on FB a couple of times to give friends a heads up, so it's up to them now. Even the Lodger has been a bit sceptical about how bad it could be as I passed him the fifth can of tomato soup

    @BleakMidwinter Ah, the only person I know with a woodstove lives on a houseboat, so it'd be a bit cramped!

    Hah! That's about the same time I moved to Brum from Bethnal Green. It would be massively ironic if they get the biggest dumping of snow after we left, although to be fair, the snow we had in December was deeper than anything I'd seen in London.

    Did the first big stock up of food today, even picked up a torch. Mind you, if we have a power cut we're a bit borked as everything in the flat runs on electric! The only plus point is we're very well insulated, although as we're East facing I'm really noticing the wind giving the window a little bit of a rattle already. All the workmen doing the Holloway Head slipway were moving the equipment out today. Maybe they've been warned about the freezing conditions coming?

    As much as I'm not enamoured of another cold spell, I hope the model forecasts firm up soon so I can plan what days to take off. Keeping my fingers crossed it doesn't last too long- was enjoying the daffs and crocus that were starting to appear!

    Lol, I was beginning to think I was the only person on here looking forward to Spring. Happy about the milder temps next week.

    We were in Menden then, before we returned to the UK. Those German winters have always been my benchmark for proper snow

    When I lived in Germany back in the 80s I made an igloo with some friends, although as it was in a public space (we lived in a block of flats at the time) we didn't sleep in it overnight. I think yours looks a lot neater than ours did, as we made bricks by rolling snow into big balls and then shaping them- the ice cream tubs sound like a better idea!

    And very strong wind gusts following on behind- short and intense.

    Just had an very short but intense thunderstorm pass south of Brum city centre. Several very bright flashes of lightning with quite loud thunder. Probably woke some people up I should imagine! Looks like we've got some more heading in from the West.

    One of the joys of being self employed- I took the decision last Thursday to take Monday off. Too many roadworks/ building works/ scaffolding along my walk in to risk.

    Had some heavy rain and wind round about 7pm, but it's dead quiet now. I was looking forward to being lulled to sleep by the wind and rain.

    Given how prone to sinkholes Florida is at the best of times, it's going to be interesting to see if alot of new ones open up thanks to Irma's storm surge and rainfall. Having one of those open up under your house whilst you trying to ride out this hurricane doesn't bear thinking about.
