  1. what's the true definition of Lake Effect then please? can it only be applied to Gt Lakes etc where it's over fresh water? There must be a defined limit regarding the area of water required Vs Temperature? I daren't even mention lake effect snow in my house because we can see Coniston Water from my bedroom, office etc, but have got nobbut a thick sprinkling really, so something of a let down!
  2. aye, felt and heard a bit of a rumble, said it was an earthquake, but hoped it was thundersnow!
  3. Aye it's wellying it down here too, not massive accumulation as yet but at least it's having a go!
  4. Nobbut a dusting here, odd flurries still, but at least the car will clear quickly!
  5. The netweather radar is 5 minute refresh too
  6. Err....measured in cms these days because it sounds bigger than inches?
  7. Thanks, makes more sense to this luddite!
  8. That's a relief! Is the explanation available in English ?
  9. Yeah, odd one that as 2010/11 easterly we got plenty of snow...but then again these are modelled, they aren't hindcasting so guess patience is a virtue...
  10. Aye no worries happy to, I intend being around for a bit!
  11. Aye, ironically it's quite rare for Ill-equipped folk to come to grief!
  12. Lol, indeed, there's a number of people make unplanned attendance!
  13. If it snows I'll invite you! How old are grandkids? Can give a special tour of mountain rescue team base if they're old enough to understand?
  14. Aye but at least it's not backing off to anything more marginal. A few weeks ago we'd have given our back teeth for -9 uppers, think the fantasy style uppers have spoilt our expectations? Whatever it's a belting end to the meteorological winter!
  15. Upgrade after upgrade, all nuances rather than wholesale changes, but all lining up to be something that may have been worth waiting for. Not sure I'll be getting many miles in early March... One of those kinks is pretty much over my gaff! To Paraphrase Roy Scheider "we're gonna need a bigger shovel"
  16. Luckily the two I've been aware of have both been modest affairs. That said I can't imagine the helplessness that would go with a serious one!
  17. Aye, the 21.12.10 one was only 2 km away from me pretty deep though.. https://earthquakes.bgs.ac.uk/research/events/cumbriaEarthquakeDec2010.html
  18. Aye well as a Conistonian born and bred I'm more at risk of terminal trench foot than skin cancer!
