  1. Absolutely fantastic post, @Catacol. As a rank amateur I (think) fully grasped your take on very complex science. The cold and snow bit did not lead to any bias whatsoever in this post
  2. Did anyone see Judah Cohen's post on twitter? I'm no expert but it reinforces the idea that a SSW and vortex displacement doesn't always bring the goods for us.
  3. To be honest my main assertion was wrong as I mistakenly was looking at the 12z instead of 18z. However, it was (from my v limited understanding) clear that the initial strength of the block and subsequent easterly was dealt a massive blow by yesterday afternoon. Should I go on model thread and do a bit of 'I told you so?'
  4. Any thoughts on why there are lower totals showing for NW Ireland (not that I'm complaining)? Would have expected us to get drenched in this stalking front set up. Is it due to fronts swinging in from the SW and we're missing the most intense areas of precipitation?
  5. Back in the saddle for another snow chasing season and its an early start this season. Models really firming up on the incoming cold spell and we may see some of the white stuff, especially with elevation.
  6. Wow what a drive home. As soon as I entered that cloud structure things went crazy. Could only drive 20mph and continuous lightning. Roads severely flooded yet I can see down to Omagh and it's lovely and bright. The image below highlights yesterday's weather and today. Got our own swimming pool in back garden!
  7. Awesome cloud structures on road home between Cookstown and Omagh. Almost continuous low level thunder and sheet lightning on all sides.
  8. Had a great downpour/thunder/lightning in Cookstown but was in a meeting with work. Was very tempted to just walk and and watch the sky but might not have went down too well. Horrendously clamy today though.
  9. Huge cell just developed around Dungannon within 45 mins. Could be fun this evening!
  10. Absolutely stunning week so far in the North of Ireland. Regularly in mid 20s with hardly a cloud in the sky!!
  11. I'd take rain and 10 degrees over the potential tanned pics haha!
  12. Really starting to clear up now though. With wind changing to SE we are in prime position to avoid the low cloud moving in from the continent whilst still being lovely and warm. I've no desire for 30°C so a week of sunny, low to mid twenties weather sounds deadly. Can't wait!
  13. Looks like central Monaghan is getting hammered. I think the main low is looking better than expected for mkre northern areas. Come on baby, you can do it!!
  14. That's more like it, Omagh getting pummelled now. We've a really light snow all day but intensity really picked up now. Streamer has lost steam in the southern corridor of Ulster and transferred to central/northern UIster.
  15. Lads, forget the BBC/Met office etc, the only model to pay attention to is the mighty GEM...it's showing heavy snow for over 24hrs for all of Ireland! As was mentioned a day or two ago...UPPAGEM!
  16. Our luck had to run out sometime @booferking haha!!
  17. Just saw that, something to look forward to if it happens. hopefully it maintains it's intensity as it moves north. Areas in the south of Ireland have intense snowfall for nearly 24 hours, going to be epic there!
  18. Excuse the poor video skills but I just took this from my office window. Had to come back inside to zoom in and see the drifting snow better. This streamer has been excellent!
  19. Anybody else under the streamer running through the middle of the country? It's snowing in Omagh this past hour and more on the way!
  20. That streamer still producing the goods here in Omagh, lovely heavy snow outside now.
  21. Any videos guys? Radar looks epic around the Edinburgh area!
  22. Lovely line of streamers coming straight at Omagh now. I'd say the M1 would be dodge enough now. Very heavy precip showing over the A5 from Ballygawley to Omagh, too.
  23. The radar is absolutely fascinating at the minute, for some reason showers are only starting/building when they pass lough Neagh.
  24. Check out the radar, showers are now developing over land. Large bank of heavy clouds moving into Omagh now. Streamer looks to be pushing north on east coast too, you guys should see some action soon!!
