  1. How Coronavirus Raced Through Quarantined Cruise Ship APPLE.NEWS The crisis aboard the quarantined Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan shows how germs can spread rapidly through air conditioning systems that can't filter out particles as small as the new...
  2. Just answered my own question. Check out Pintrest. More than enough patterns. Whether the material you use would be of much use is another matter.
  3. What is the latest info on the the benefits of face masks? It would seem they have doubtful benefits. The chap on BBC news this morning said if nothing else it reminds you not to touch your face with potentially infectious hands. What is a mask’s life expectancy (obviously depending on type). Can they be sterilised for extended use bearing in mind they are going to be in very short supply now? Fortunately I have already got some for use in my building works. Any one got a nice sewing pattern to knock some up?
  4. Update Coronavirus (COVID-19): latest information and advice - GOV.UK WWW.GOV.UK Information for the public on the outbreak of coronavirus in China, including the current situation in the UK and information about the virus and its symptoms.
  5. Current government travel advice does not yet include anything about travel to Italy.
  6. At the risk of being shot down in flames I have been checking out my masks. Unfortunately the one I have is so old the elastic is all perished. Comments from the family have included have your joined the Bad Breath Boys Club? No respect.
  7. I know this is in the Mail but must be some truth in it. China BANS eating wild animals amid fears the practice sparked coronavirus outbreak | Daily Mail Online WWW.DAILYMAIL.CO.UK China 's top legislative committee on Monday passed a proposal to ban all trade and consumption of wild animals, a practice believed responsible for the country's deadly coronavirus outbreak.
  8. Yes I remember that. Recall swimming pools being closed. Also the dreaded iron lung.
  9. Back to the “Pandemic”. Well sort of. If seasonal flu was new how would that be reported in the media?
  10. Sorry that my brief light heated posting yesterday has upset some. Yes I appreciate the seriousness as I am a prime candidate for ending up dead if it gets out of hand.
  11. Do you rub it on or drink it? Like drinking milk so no problem.
  12. Being one who has always been interested in alternative medicine I have been checking out what I should do. Apparently garlic is no good nor a a hamster up your bottom. So have tried my last batch of sloe gin. Certainly hits the spot. Might not cure the virus but you wouldn’t care
  13. Isn’t the down turn in manufacturing and trade what Extinction Rebellion and others are advocating? They should be very pleased. Pollution indicators for China indicate a substantial improvement. All very good but what of the human cost in the short and longer term? Perhaps the virus is going to rebalance over population, which is problem few would try and do anything about. It is everyone’s right to have too many babies and expect the cost to be born by others. A somewhat selfish attitude.
  14. Misinformation may make disease outbreaks worse, researchers say APPLE.NEWS Public health researchers in the U.K. say that the spread of misinformation during a disease outbreak may make the outbreak more severe. They hope their findings might help other public health officials... Could be a case that Government should be bold and clear but as we know many only believe what they read on Twitter and the like.
  15. Black Death discovery offers rare new look at plague catastrophe APPLE.NEWS An unexpected archaeological find in an ancient abbey may reveal how rural populations handled the ravages of a deadly epidemic.
  16. Yes I have been wondering how much food backup some may have. Thinking in particular those who rely heavily on take away food and are not in practice to do home cooking (if they ever were). Doesn't cause me a problem but I would miss fresh stuff that is lacking this time of year from the garden or allotment. Appreciate many don’t have the opportunity to grow their own even if they had the inclination. Would have to check out all those UFO’s at the bottom of the freezer. (Unidentified Frozen Objects)
  17. Possibly we should ask Tom to add this to his betting tread? What are odds of catching something by next Friday? All dead? Etc. Etc.
  18. All the extended sniping by some does get a bit tedious. You have made your points again and again. It tends to clutter up this thread for no benefit.
  19. Wasn’t there a lad who did stuff on evolution? Derwin? No Darwin.
  20. Sorry have not fallen foul of the common misconception. Agreed all humans are basically the same but because no place is the same there are differences caused by the living conditions and life style where they have evolved. For example people living at the height of the Andes can cope with the rarified atmosphere. Transpose a lowland person there and they would find it very difficult to cope. So the two are not the same.
  21. I did mention prone to, which does not mean everyone. Who says that each virus must be successful?
  22. If certain medical problems tend to run through families I don’t see why a proneness to one thing or another shouldn’t run with different races. It’s not racial just a matter of fact. My father died from prostate cancer, my brother died from prostate cancer. I have had prostate cancer.
  23. Hence don’t eat the free crisps and peanuts on the pub bar. Or anywhere else you would be sharing with anyone.
