  1. I'm watching this one with interest. Can anyone explain to me the difference between a tropical and an extra-tropical system? I don't mean definition-wise, rather what it means on the ground, so to speak
  2. Yeah, I noticed the 981.8 mb readings, but they've marked the "centre" at 988 mb.I think they chose that because of the wind direction, but I'm not convinced it's really 988 mb. We'll see what the next pass brings.
  3. Cheer me up some more, why don't you? I really don't want gales yet, I haven't got the stables and the pond sorted out for bad weather. Can anyone here give me an explanation of how they may combine and what the possible outcomes are?
  4. Looking at the latest data she's dropped 3 mB in the centre since the last flight, winds around 85 mph in SE. If she keeps moving further west she might regain strength and slam into the mainland. Meanwhile Lee seemed to do a wee loop-de-loop and is now heading NW. What are the chances of these two meeting up?
  5. Yup and the strangest thing is the disagreement between the models on what Lee is gonna do. At 5 days there's a 900 mile difference, also one model says Lee will dissipate, another predicts intensification to a cat2/3 hurricane. Read the NHC discussion. The takeaway I got is "We haven't a clue!" Edited to add this image and ask what is that thing forming between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic? Taken from here http://tropicalatlantic.com/recon/recon.cgi?basin=al&mapping=cesium
  6. I see she's reformed a distinct eye. As an aside the remnants of Lee have reorganised and it's now being categorised as a tropical storm.
  7. This one is further west so the surf isn't quite as high, but interesting to watch. https://www.skylinewebcams.com/en/webcam/dominican-republic/puerto-plata/cabarete/cabarete-kite-beach.html
  8. This is the best webcam I can find. It's not perfect, but if you're into watching wee waves it's the one for you! https://www.skylinewebcams.com/en/webcam/dominican-republic/samana/las-terrenas/playa-bonita.html Edit - and 5 mins after I posted that the cam went down... sigh...
  9. Looks like Maria is reforming her eye after her journey over Puerto Rico
  10. I'm watching the Brandon Clement live feed from San Juan. It's coming from a car with wipers on in a parking garage with a huge dumpster in front of the opening. Sounds rubbish except the trees are spectacular and the huge dumpster is starting to lift at one end. The guys have already had to dodge debris - a huge sheet of corrugated iron. Someone here gave me the link earlier and it's a goodie https://livestormchasing.com/map
  11. Hasn't reached San Juan yet. Half of eye is now on shore and it has about an eye's width between the eye wall and San Juan. So maybe a couple of hours to go. I've lost my scale thing for my map (processor not a happy bunny). Maybe someone with processing power in excess of my 10 W bulb equivalent can give a more precise answer.
  12. Silly question I know, but has anyone got a linkie to a streaming webcam in the area, including Turks and Caicos? I can't find a thing, but I have a real blind spot when it comes to finding them. Left to my own devices I usually find one that updates once a fortnight... sigh...
  13. I haven't heard a thing and I've had the news on all day. Getting very worrying.
  14. Also earthcam has a link https://www.earthcam.com/usa/virginislands/stcroix/?cam=mmstcroix_hd
  15. They just got a 930.3. Is that close enough for your lottery ticket?
  16. I'm so glad someone else has noticed these wobbles. I thought I was losing my mind! Irma did the same and that's one of the reasons she went further west than initially predicted.
  17. I'm rubbish at linking images, but on the satellite loop it looked as if Maria turned WSW just as she made landfall on Dominica. Just a little turn, but this was what Irma did and which resulted in her going further west.
  18. I'm using this http://tropicalatlantic.com/recon/recon.cgi?basin=al&mapping=cesium with the infrared overshooting tops and mission overlays. I'm finding it easier on my old eyes and I like the clickable wind flags.
