  1. I don't have any relevant qualifications to speak of, I have no training or experience in met-type stuff so just ignore me if you want to, but something about this bunny has me concerned. Conditions seem to be right for it to absolutely bomb.
  2. I was wondering what the temp of the Gulf waters are re historical temps, ie are they warmer or cooler than is normal for this time of year?
  3. Just for info, I managed to land safely in Edinburgh about 30 minutes before the worst of the storm hit on Wednesday. It wasn't pleasant, but neither was it terrifying. If it had been sometime in the following hour I have a feeling I'd still be a gibbering wreck.
  4. Terrific, I land at Edinburgh airport Wednesday morning 10:25. This should be a barrel of laughs
  5. Travel sickness is the lest of my worries. I'm more concerned about the crash and burn option
  6. Given my flight path, I'm coming in from the north down across Scotland to get to Heathrow, then all the way back up to Edinburgh so if the worst comes to the worst, I get to fly through it twice, with two landings and one takeoff. Oh joy...
  7. Hey guys, I'm currently in San Francisco. I fly into Heathrow on Wednesday 19th and then on to Edinburgh. Been following Helene since she formed. Any thoughts on wind speeds Wednesday morning?
  8. Can someone please post the link for watching the flights doing data collection? I'm rushing about packing for a trip to San Francisco and just can't find it.
  9. Keep an eye open for very short-lived funnel clouds or tornadoes.
  10. 'Orrible sticky outside just now. Sun making an attempt and if it manages to break through it's gonna be unbearable.
  11. Guys, I've completely lost track of the warnings for today, areas affected etc and don't have time to catch up. I know I'm asking a huge favour, but can anyone just post a wee message re risks near Livingston in the central belt of Scotland. I've had a bit of a horsie emergency and the last thing I need is a downpour whilst they're still out in the field. I know it's a big ask, but even just some vague pointers will help. I'll check back later, gotta get back to neddies, can't be left alone.
  12. Would you believe it? It fell apart as it passed over me and is now reorganising north of me. Look at the rainfall radar animation and see what happened as it passes over the A71 just west of Livi.
  13. Thunder rumbling away, cell looks to be heading to pass just west of Livi from the SE. Horses brought in. One didn't give a toss, the other was all sweated up.
  14. I've reached the point where I'm longing for spring... what we have just now is miserable.
  15. Nah, I really did mean take 'em off, may supply an extra... measuring stick...
  16. Started here again, had a lull for a couple of hours, but it looks like it might make up for that. Of course it starts just as I have to go out and bed down the horses for the night.
  17. If that pans out we're gonna get hammered here and we're now at about 8 inches with 2.5 ft drifts in places.
  18. Yeah, but never trust a male when he says anything measures 13 inches... just sayin'...
  19. That red warning is right across the M8 corridor. I used to work in Glasgow and live in Edinburgh and many, many people do. This upgrade to red in the middle of the day long after most people have gone to work is a real problem. I've done that route in horrendous conditions, took 5.5 hrs and there was only about an inch of snow east of Harthill! Given the amount of snow we had overnight and the forecast that today would be even worse and given that last night it was reported that we were "on the cusp" of a red warning, an earlier upgrade might have been prudent. Still, at least the schools had the sense to close and I talked hubby outta going to work. Now we can enjoy the snow instead of worrying.
