Well while Chelmsford has had a storm, I have had absolutely nothing, and I'm only about 10 miles away. Big spots of rain just started falling here now though...
-
Some bright echoes on that North London cell that's been dropping some sferics...
-
Had a brief shower here about an hour ago, and now looking very dark to the North. Think my area is more of a breeding ground today, still, good luck to those of you in the firing line further North!
-
Very humid here too, but still no sign of the sun
-
Very hazy skies here. It's hard to say what's happening higher up because I can't see through the haze! Nice breeze coming in through the window though.
I've got a dentist appointment at 11:30 so hopefully nothing happens until the afternoon.

I hope something happens in North Kent too, because that puts it in a perfect position to hit me just the other side of the Thames!

I have finally managed to edit my video from the early hours of Monday morning in Essex. As I said yesterday, I was gutted when I saw the MCS from France take a turn and follow the coast of Sussex and Kent. By this time I was already in Essex but could not really travel any further as did not have the petrol to do so, and no money on me to re-fill (note to self, never leave for a chase without bank card again). I was all set to face the disappointment of heading home with nothing to show for my drive out, but as I was sat parked at East Tilbury I noticed closer flashes to the south-west as opposed to the very distant ones I had been seeing occasionally to the south. I am still feeling disappointed that I did not get to be in the stronger storm to my south-east but at least I was able to get some crumbs of comfort. The video below shows some of the storm that passed near to Tilbury.
That's about 12 miles down the road to my West. I had some lovely lightning too.

I'm calling it a bust today already, but after last night and the overhead storm on Saturday morning, I'm ok with that.

Ended up travelling much further south and east than planned, but ended up in Folkestone at midnight-ish! Some incredible lightning as I'm sure has been discussed to death already I got out of there before it got too crazy as I didn't want to become stranded in any flooding on the sea front. Some incredible spider lightning witnessed on the drive back up as well. Amazing day, but in hindsight a ridiculous amount of distance to cover for me. Thank goodness I've got the week off (the joys of working in education )
That's a pretty incredible chase there man

Doesn't feel particularly humid this morning. Quite a bit of haze for the sun to break through which will limit surface heating for the time being. Could really do without a storm today, hoping to have a barbeque later.

Welp, it's goodbye from me for another year!

Morning all,
Pretty decent storm came through about 1:30am, with some lovely strobe lightning and what I think were couple of positive CG's! Some nice long rumbles too. Didn't last all that long though I don't think, though I must confess to having dozed off halfway through!
-
I've seen a few flashes and heard a few rumbles, but nothing like what you've described
-
Closest rumble yet. Staying awake for a bit longer...

This is unreal - literally flashing every second or two. It's a proper electrical storm by any definition of the word.
Absolutely none are showing up on lightning radars though. Think I'm getting the odd rumble from that.
-
Slightly closer rumble then. Nothing being picked up though
-
Pouring with rain with a couple of distant rumbles so far...

Lightning East of London with looking at Real Time Lightning site
Can confirm.

That was definitely a distant rumble...
-
Definitely a Kent clipper. Further inland than usual though so will keep an ear out. Not sure if I just heard a rumble or not. If so, it was a very long way off.
-
Oh hang on, what was that?
-
Lightning 10km apparently. Definitely not true.
-
Well it's about to start raining at the very least. Think I'll give it another hour and if nothing significant has happened, call it a night.

Yup! But still a no show on Blitzortung. There seems to be a lot more going on than is being shown
Yeah, I'm seeing barely anything showing up inland

Just heard a distant rumble from a cell just North of Rayleigh, so about 5 miles to my North
