  1. Meh.. unseasonably warm weather so late in the year just doesn't appeal to me like it would if it was to happen during July or August. I feel the exact same way about unseasonably cold weather from late March onwards. I don't suppose there's anything more seasonal being shown on any of the models just yet is there? I don't necessarily mean constant wind and rain (though a good named storm would be nice for a day or so), but it would be nice to have a sunny day in the early to mid teens and some cool foggy nights with a touch of frost. But it seems as if it's either one or the other these days, with little in the way of a middle ground.
  2. In my opinion, the least interesting using each month is as follows: January - 2017 - anticyclonic gloom for much of the time February - 2023 - a very quiet and benign month March - 2013 - not sure April - 2021 - very little rain but also cool with frosts. A frustrating month for gardeners and farmers May - 2021 - cool and wet all the way up to the 27th June - 2016 - very wet after the first week July - 2015 - apart from the first couple of days, not much else happened during this month August - 2021 - pleasant, but bland from a weather enthusiasts's perspective September - 2021 (yes, 2021 again) - the extended summer got boring after a little while. I lose interest once we have reached the equinox October - not sure November - not sure December - 2015 - very mild with very little wintry weather
  3. Why could we not have had these setups during the summer? It's so frustrating at times how we get the right setups but at the wrong times of the year. I personally don't appreciate warmth from late September onwards.
  4. Even October, particularly the first half is becoming less autumn-like these days. With this year being no exception, if the warm spell being predicted comes to fruition.
  5. With any luck, the warm October won't come to fruition. It would be nice to have some proper autumnal weather. Cool crisp sunny days would be great, with the odd storm thrown in.
  6. A few warm days in October, particularly at the beginning of the month isn't anything out of the ordinary and is certainly no guarantee that it will lead to a very mild Christmas which is a few months away. October 2001 for example had some warm days reaching the low 20s in many areas, with even 23°C in some places. The following Christmas however wasn't particularly mild, with temps around average at best. Going further back (and a better example), October 1978 had some very warm days reaching the low to mid 20s around the 11th with London reaching 25°C. We all know how the following winter went.
  7. A spell similar to the one we had during the last week of September 2015 and into October would be ideal. Sunny days with temps in the high teens accompanied by cool single digit foggy nights and mornings. I would happily take that.
  8. Looks like this year's 30th of September could very well be settled for a change.
  9. I am in a minority, but I personally don't want any warmth now until next March. Summer has had its chance, but there is always next year. I enjoy all four seasons and there is a time and place for all weather types. But just because I don't want any warmth doesn't mean that I want it to be constantly unsettled. A sunny day with average temps and single digit foggy nights would be nice. Yesterday was a great day for those conditions. I don't appreciate warmth in late September or October much like many don't appreciate cold persisiting into late March and April. Neither feel right.
  10. Mine's frequently below 20°C now (100 year old house) and is currently 17.4°C. Comfortable enough for me. It's when it drops to below around 16.5°C that I begin to feel uncomfortable.
  11. Energy bills are going to be high anyway regardless on wheteher or not we have a cold winter. And even mild winters are enough to warrant putting the heating on for many people, particuarly those who are vulnerable or elderly. Unfortunately, all weather extremes come with their risks. Whilst I am sympathetic, I won't ever apologise for wanting cold and snow in winter, and I would also never apologise for wanting heat and thunderstorms during the summer. Neither extreme cold or extreme heat usually last that long in this country anyway.
  12. Any kind of extreme can have negative consequences on some people, whether it is heat, cold, rain, strong winds etc. But you aren't allowed to mention that in regards to heat, because "but but winter..." . A classic example of whataboutery.
  13. Starting to feel a bit nippy in the mornings now. Hello autumn.
  14. After a sunny start it soon clouded over and we had a sharp shower early in the afternoon. Otherwise alternating clouds and sun. A daytime temp of 17°C Currently mostly cloudy with a temp of 11°C, though feels like 10°C An air pressure of 996mb and rising 9°C dew point and comfortable humidity
  15. A dry, sunny and cool start to the day, though is starting to cloud over more now. It was a cool night with the temp dipping down to 8°C A current temp of 14°C, though feels like 15°C A steady air pressure of 995mb 12°C dew point and comfortable humidity
  16. I am finding September this year to be quite mixed. From the heatwave early in the month, then the warmth and thunderstorms mid month, to the unsettled period we have been having this week. Looks like the remainder of the month is looking like a bit of a mixed bag with mild to warmish days. I often find September to be the least interesting of all the months, but I am quite enjoying this one due to its variability.
  17. I am sorry to hear that. Some people really have it in for cyclists. Quite sad really. If we can't have cold and snow or cold and sunny then I will take mild and stormy. Mild on its own during the winter is just plain boring, as is cold and overcast.
  18. Despite an air pressure of only 995mb, it is actually quite a pleasant morning with the sky being mostly sunny along with a very gentle breeze. Just shows that low pressure doesn't necessarily equate to being unsettled, just like high pressure doesn't always equate to being settled and sunny. Edit: Looks like I have spoken too soon as it's clouding over now.
  19. Very rare, but the first single digit daytime temp can even happen in September if it has the right setup. Late September 1993 delivered such conditions for many areas. Even rarer nowadays.
  20. I don't understand all this hate for cyclists personally. Sure, you get some inconsiderate ones but I frequently come across inconsiderate motoritsts as well who could do with retaking their tests. When I was learning to drive, I lost count the number of times I was honked at by impatient motorists. But that's for another thread really.
  21. I very much enjoy listening to the wind and rain when I am warm and cosy indoors and love a good storm or two as it does add interest. But it isn't so fun when I have to go to work in it.
