  1. Yep, looks pretty good although it's not been falling as heavy here as the radar would suggest. We've hit yellow on the radar overhead with only very light snow falling, the cars are still frosted over which is a good sign tho! Not sure whether we're going to get a good dumping here or just be too far south for the heavier stuff, time to wait and see I guess
  2. I'm not sure we'll even get much in the way of precipitation here, the most persistent stuff looks like north of Glasgow (probably). I wouldn't be surprised if we get more from the showers after the front moves through Friday afternoon onwards!
  3. Met office have just amended the warning and increased possible snow totals for the cental lowlands to 5-10cm possible in places... Although still low liklihood.
  4. Aye not looking so good. The Latest met office text forecast mentions the potential for significant snow on Sunday with drifting though... onto the next chance then if this one goes north
  5. Yep, although I wouldn't be too disheartened as although the precip barely goes south of Glasgow on that image they have the warning all the way down to the border and across to the east coast. UKV has it over us between about 8am and lunchtime then potentially more bursts later in the day. My concern is that it may be sleet or freezing rain though! One for the radar on the day I think. If it does hit those areas as snow then that's potentially an amber warning given it covers the M77/M8 and others at peak travel time! Big difference to the latest GFS though which takes it even further north and only just reaches the central belt by about 3-6pm!
  6. Warning out for Friday It has trended north a little but it wouldn't take much of a nudge south to bring us into the larger snow amounts here... Outbreaks of sleet and snow will spread across much of southern, central and western Scotland through Friday. 1-3 cm of snow is likely in places below 200 metres, with 5-8 cm possible above 200 metres south of the Central Belt. Over high ground north of the Central Belt, there is potential for 10-20cm to accumulate above 200 metres through Friday. Later in the day, snow at low levels will likely turn to rain. In addition to the snow, sleet or rain may fall onto frozen surfaces leading to some icy conditions. 7. Another ice day and the dusting of snow From Saturday hasn't melted at all. - 9c last night and Freezing fog for most of the day which has just lifted. The trees look spectacular in the dark so should be some great views in the morning! - 6c when I took this photo about an hour ago.
  8. No real chance of anything until overnight Thursday into Friday, the models have the chance of precipitation into the Glasgow region for c.18hours from early Friday but it may be slightly too warm - one to watch over the next few days. Then there are further chances over the weekend and winds hopefully going round to the North West next week at times which gives us a better chance depending on how cold it gets but that's way off at the moment, certainly lots of interest!
  9. A difficult one this far out but one I'm following. It's a potentially very snowy weekend (and possibly into the start of the new week) with a good chance of those missing out so far taking part - or it could be very sleety for low ground! Edit: GFS12Z for example looks more like rain from the breakdown than snow for most, potential for a bit of snow on Friday for Western/Central areas though.
  10. The ice rink is now covered in a dusting of snow here! We just caught one small shower from that band about 5am.
  11. I drove through to Perthshire today, that'll explain your lack of snow this time @Mair Snaw - sorry In terms of the journey, the car defrosted within 5mins this morning as a heavy snow shower just missed to the east. Got into the car with some flurries and it pretty much snowed heavy at times all the way through to the east side of Glasgow where it was all white.(same at home) Then some sleet and rain showers for the rest of the journey, which was actually quite good to clear the windscreen after all of the screenwash I had needed! Not much else until we were nearly home about 5 with a wet snow shower and now it's an ice rink outside! Temps were up and down like a yoyo in both directions, we had snow at 2c and rain at 0c... Not sure what will happen tonight now! Edit:GFS now doesn't make much of it this far West after having it got all the way into Ayrshire on other runs. Oh well!
  12. We're getting very light snow from that band too, can see it in the lampposts and there's a sprinkling of dandruff on top of the frost.
  13. Meto warning out/extended for this now @Ruzzi . It doesn't quite reach here...
  14. Totally agree more widely on that! (excluding the North East where some places have had decent snow) I'm seeing articles with "bone chilling - 3c" and similar, it's the middle of December, frosts overnight are totally normal! So far, there is nothing special about this cold snap, hopefully that will change over the coming days and hopefully weeks, but so far it's just a cold start to December. The latest ECM hits the jackpot here, I'll believe it when I see it... (borrowed from the mod thread)
  15. Light snow falling here now, first of the winter It's off already actually but lovely to see! Saturday night looks like the next best chance although I haven't looked through all of the models this morning.
  16. It looks a tad snowy on the Edinburgh bypass too... It's nice to see all of the snow photos, I'm not expecting much over the next week here but maybe we'll get lucky! Possibly some flurries this morning which is funny since the models showed this about a week ago and then dropped it over the last few days.
  17. The overnight runs appear to have mostly killed off the chance of snow on Wednesday night for those further south... winters over!
  18. GFS 18Z brings the heavier precip down the western side of the country on Wed night (after its given the North a good dollop) , there's still a warm sector to worry about though. A good dumping for much of the country Sunday into Monday coming from the east too.... Monday rush hour... (FI warning tho!)
  19. Just for the record, I was using it in a genuine way on here since I noticed it existed
  20. There's also some warmer air caught up in that as it moves down the west coast which may bring sleet or freezing rain for those areas especially on lower ground...! Let's hope it moves west about 80miles
  21. Looking good for the first flakes Weds night says the latest GFS... Just coming into range of UKV with a band of heavy showers heading south into N.Scotland in sub-zero temps. Of course, never trust a precip chart...
  22. There still looks to be a chance of widespread snow overnight Wednesday into Thursday to me with the front coming down from the North. It will be decaying as it does and as usual particularly so as it travels over the highlands towards the central belt, but we may get a dusting out of it or something a little better where heavy precip survives (if it happens as that varies by model!). That will really help bring the temperature down overnight for the remainder of the week. Other than that, those away from the North/North East and coastal fringes need to have fingers crossed for some more disturbances in the flow... some potential over the weekend but that's too far away really. I went into B&Q yesterday and they had 8 full pallets with bags of rock salt sitting out for sale so their forecasters are maybe expecting some decent cold weather... Agree this week is going to be expensive on the heating, if the grid can even cope...
