  1. The ice rink is now covered in a dusting of snow here! We just caught one small shower from that band about 5am.
  2. I drove through to Perthshire today, that'll explain your lack of snow this time @Mair Snaw - sorry In terms of the journey, the car defrosted within 5mins this morning as a heavy snow shower just missed to the east. Got into the car with some flurries and it pretty much snowed heavy at times all the way through to the east side of Glasgow where it was all white.(same at home) Then some sleet and rain showers for the rest of the journey, which was actually quite good to clear the windscreen after all of the screenwash I had needed! Not much else until we were nearly home about 5 with a wet snow shower and now it's an ice rink outside! Temps were up and down like a yoyo in both directions, we had snow at 2c and rain at 0c... Not sure what will happen tonight now! Edit:GFS now doesn't make much of it this far West after having it got all the way into Ayrshire on other runs. Oh well!
  3. We're getting very light snow from that band too, can see it in the lampposts and there's a sprinkling of dandruff on top of the frost.
  4. Meto warning out/extended for this now @Ruzzi . It doesn't quite reach here...
  5. Totally agree more widely on that! (excluding the North East where some places have had decent snow) I'm seeing articles with "bone chilling - 3c" and similar, it's the middle of December, frosts overnight are totally normal! So far, there is nothing special about this cold snap, hopefully that will change over the coming days and hopefully weeks, but so far it's just a cold start to December. The latest ECM hits the jackpot here, I'll believe it when I see it... (borrowed from the mod thread)
  6. Light snow falling here now, first of the winter It's off already actually but lovely to see! Saturday night looks like the next best chance although I haven't looked through all of the models this morning.
  7. It looks a tad snowy on the Edinburgh bypass too... It's nice to see all of the snow photos, I'm not expecting much over the next week here but maybe we'll get lucky! Possibly some flurries this morning which is funny since the models showed this about a week ago and then dropped it over the last few days.
  8. The overnight runs appear to have mostly killed off the chance of snow on Wednesday night for those further south... winters over!
  9. GFS 18Z brings the heavier precip down the western side of the country on Wed night (after its given the North a good dollop) , there's still a warm sector to worry about though. A good dumping for much of the country Sunday into Monday coming from the east too.... Monday rush hour... (FI warning tho!)
  10. Just for the record, I was using it in a genuine way on here since I noticed it existed
  11. There's also some warmer air caught up in that as it moves down the west coast which may bring sleet or freezing rain for those areas especially on lower ground...! Let's hope it moves west about 80miles
  12. Looking good for the first flakes Weds night says the latest GFS... Just coming into range of UKV with a band of heavy showers heading south into N.Scotland in sub-zero temps. Of course, never trust a precip chart...
  13. There still looks to be a chance of widespread snow overnight Wednesday into Thursday to me with the front coming down from the North. It will be decaying as it does and as usual particularly so as it travels over the highlands towards the central belt, but we may get a dusting out of it or something a little better where heavy precip survives (if it happens as that varies by model!). That will really help bring the temperature down overnight for the remainder of the week. Other than that, those away from the North/North East and coastal fringes need to have fingers crossed for some more disturbances in the flow... some potential over the weekend but that's too far away really. I went into B&Q yesterday and they had 8 full pallets with bags of rock salt sitting out for sale so their forecasters are maybe expecting some decent cold weather... Agree this week is going to be expensive on the heating, if the grid can even cope...
  14. Torrential rain this morning for the school run which is just clearing now. Nice display of mammatus on the back edge with some even rarer blue sky coming through too!!
  15. We had some thunder around 6am this morning but I didn't bother to get up and see what was happening! Dull and damp now...
  16. Looked a tad more like UKV at 3,although an hour out (although I didn't really look at the rest of the country that early!)
  17. UKV wins again, some very strong winds and some ridiculous rain. Photo doesn't do it justice!
  18. Yeah saw that on UKV and torro discussion. Don't think I've got the energy to stay awake to watch even more rain tonight although could be interesting. It'll probs wake me up though
  19. Absolutely hammering it down again, downpours have been training on this area since mid morning- the massive puddle behind the house is the biggest I've seen it since we moved into the house in June. There should really be a yellow weather warning but it won't make any difference now!
  20. Some torential downpours so far today, the main roads were like a river when I went out at lunchtime. In other news, I see the TrafficScotland website has been updated, it looks much better and it'll hopefully be able to cope better during severe weather. They do seem to have dropped the weather stations though unless I'm missing them which is a pain! Traffic Scotland | Trunk road traffic updates & route planner WWW.TRAFFIC.GOV.SCOT Traffic Scotland gives you the real-time information you need about Scotland’s trunk road network
  21. Very wet, mild and windy, normal for the time of year but feels strange after a very quiet summer!
  22. Ouch, I make those 90-110mph gusts the UKV below? Torrential rain possible in pulses from the early hours tomorrow morning too so I'd expect warnings shortly...
  23. Great Post. I've been keeping an eye on it for the last few days and the UKV has been showing torrential rain on Friday morning for days. Typically it's at school run time so I will be getting drenched with the kids in the morning, should wake us up!
  24. The first strong winds for a long time here which i can hear rattling off the roof, it's also cool, damp and was dark quite early. It's making me turn my thoughts to those nights where we're cosy inside watching the lampposts for the first flakes of snow, not long to go now hopefuly!
