  1. Eerily quiet here in Manchester. A light breeze and not even a spot of rain in the air.
  2. For anyone travelling to or across Wales by train this weekend, Network Rail have posted a message about potential disruption. Notice how it mentions extremely heavy rain more than once.
  3. With the ground already very saturated, I assume it won’t take much for the usual areas to get flooded again and also trees down in any strong gusts. Not good for areas in Calderdale and also further north such as Carlisle and the Peak District.
  4. Seems very gusty here tonight. Ironically it feels and sounds more windier than when Storm Ciara was here. Really don’t understand BBC forecasts - says 20mph gusts for tonight and then tomorrow 45mph gusts. Seems very random/inconsistent.
  5. What day(s) is this forecast for please and at this stage, how ‘severe’ is it looking? Obviously far too early for any specific details.
  6. Looks like there could be another squall line in the making towards the north of the country?
  7. Dare I say is that it for our region regarding the strong winds and rain? Looking at the radar it looks dry from the west.
  8. The funny thing is some people seem to think it has arrived tonight, as it is quite breezy outside. Just wait till what happens on Sunday!
  9. For my area it seems there is a strong agreement of gusts of at least 60mph, with some models indicating gusts in the high 70's. I have a feeling the Met Office will extend their orange weather warning tomorrow to cover a significantly larger area.
  10. With gusts of up to 70mph+ in densely populated areas, surely places with tall buildings will create a ‘funnel effect’, thus further increasing the wind speeds locally?
  11. Various Train Operating Companies are running to an amended service on Sunday with speed restrictions being imposed nationwide. I expect there to be a lot of fallen trees and obstructions on the line and overhead wires.
  12. What sort of disruption would 60-70mph gusts do to inland areas? I’m quite excited in terms of extremity but also at the same time it could potentially be quite serious.
  13. What are the rainfall accumulations looking like? Does this pose any further risk of flooding in South Yorkshire? Thanks.
  14. Its been a mostly dull and very wet day here. Very different to what the BBC text forecast said; mostly dry with sunny spells, with only the odd chance of a shower..
  15. Surprised the Met Office hasn’t issued a weather warning for the Midlands for heavy rain and strong winds yet?
  16. Lovely day today in Liverpool, with blue skies and feeling pleasantly warm in the sun. I think the south have had it poor today, being stuck under cloud and rain pretty much all day but Midlands north it hasn’t been too bad.
  17. Does anyone know what Saturday will be like? Specifically in the North West - Liverpool and Manchester areas. I’ve seen people’s posts regarding the models in the main thread, as they are still uncertain on the low. Could make all the difference from a dry, cloudy day to a full washout.
  18. Was half expecting it to be a washout day today, but it’s been quite the opposite in fact. Sunny intervals with a moderate breeze. Nothing is really looking wet despite the rain we’ve had overnight.
  19. Sorry if this sounds daft but what is causing/causes this area of precipitation to intensify as it moves East?
  20. Up to 40-50 mm of rain could fall Saturday night and into Sunday according to the Met Office. Details of where and when it could happen are still uncertain.
  21. Flooded fields here in Loughborough. Could be some issues with more rain on the way.
  22. I can imagine quite a few fields are now waterlogged after all the rainfall we’ve had recently. The question is, with the ground being so saturated, how much more rain can we take until flooding becomes an issue?
  23. Today has the be one of the wettest days for many months for my location. It’s been raining constantly for many hours and even now there is a ‘heavy’ drizzle keeping things nice and wet.
  24. Looks like a squall line has developed over Wales, heading E/ENE
