    Talking of all this dull weather, I wonder what it’s like to like somewhere like the Shetlands or Faroe Islands where weeks on end of dross is expected and there’s almost no chance of any warm weather at any time of the year? I know everyone has different preferences but surely the everyday people would find the summers up there truly trying!

    2020-2021 was quite a cold one. We had 3 separate snow events in all three months here and January 2021 was definitely a cold month overall.

    I’m getting fed up of any warmth being pushed further and further into FI.

    If Monday ends up being as poor as forecasted it will the fourth time in a row where Easter Monday plunges colder and/or wetter. 2020 and 2022 both saw warm and sunny conditions Fri - Sun and turned much cooler on Monday and 2021 was quite cold but saw a pleasant Easter Sunday followed by a freezing Easter Monday with snow showers.

    Great sunny morning today and feeling really warm in my garden sun trap Step in to the shade though and it’s like the Greenland Ice Sheet!

    We’re still getting a wintry mix at the moment in South Derbyshire so not quite the blizzards up the Peak District. Did really well Wed night - Thu lunchtime however and the afternoon/evening rain didn’t wash it away!

    Fast forward 26 years to 2013 and again we saw a very cold and snowy January to March, a cool spring, then a hot and dry July and after that it was warm all the way through 2014 (although we didn’t see any notable cold until 2018).

    I hope we get some wet weather in March as the weather is bound to flip at some point as it’s been so dry. I’d hate to see a flip in April like 2012. In terms of summer, I think we’ll get a warm and thundery or wettish one. I know pattern matching doesn’t always work but hot dry summers in my lifetime have either been succeeded by warm wettish ones; 2013 to 2014 or 2018 to 2019. Having said that many others classics have been followed by abysmal summers like 1911 to 1912, 1976 to 1977 and 2006 to 2007

    I think the level of cold being suggested on the model thread is best served in only December or January! Don’t get me wrong I love snow but this late I’d want to it be snowy but shorter and less severe cold. Deep cold will only destroy and delay spring growth; we’ve already got daffodils, crocuses and snowdrops out here.

    What a drab morning. Thick fog that looks like it will never burn off. Hope it does though it’s supposed to be the sunniest day today.

    Looking very sunny this week. It’s been a very sunny winter overall with lots of frost. Much better than last year.

    February 2022 was a frostless month here which, as far as I can remember, is the only February not to have recorded a frost. We had a few 0.5Cs but not 0C. I don’t think it will be as mild as last year.

    This upcoming week could be copy of January 2022: temperatures around average, dry and frostier in the south. It turns out I was correct for my January 2023 prediction: “January: mixed and average, mild and wet spells with cold and frosty spells thrown in. Perhaps a light snowfall or two.”

    December 2022 has been like 2012 not 2010 in these parts. I hope we don’t get that Bartlett high on New Year’s Day; it’d be exactly like this year’s one and I’m bored of boring Januaries. Before 2021, you have to go back all the way to 2015 to find a semi decent January around here and 2013 to find a great one.I’d take a January 2015 to be fair over anything since except 2021.

    Welp! That’s your lot for the cold spell! Now what WAS that?! Don’t get me wrong I loved the sunny, sparkly, frosty days but to have NO snow during what was quite a potent cold spell is terrible luck! We had more snow in November 2021! Here’s to better luck in January

    I don’t remember that to be honest but I distinctly remember it also snowing on Boxing Day in 2014
