  1. Pressures high, isobars far apart, warm uppers… away from the east coast it would be very decent indeed.
  2. You took a one-liner from me as a lecture and wrote a rant in response. Seems pretty personal to me…
  3. Anyone is free to lecture anyone on here sunshine. Refer to my post above. Try not to take things so personally.
  4. I think maybe time for a time out for you if you get this easily offended this often… ✌ On a side note, to state that a ‘case is closed’ is very unscientific and shows a rather amateur attitude towards science. This is how echo chambers begin.
  5. Looks familiar . Hopefully the clear sky filters eastwards by the weekend!
  6. It’s actually sunny here today! Unbelievable scenes.
  7. My 58th birthday! Yes for some heatwaves the difference is too great for winners to change hands. Case in point might be August 2020 vs 1975 - the former notable for its cloudiness and high humidity rather than the latter which was notable for its sunshine (rather overshadowed by the following summer).
  8. Looks like winter finally arriving from the weekend onwards. Perhaps not overly snowy, but at least much more seasonal and akin to the time of year. My eyes will be on the latter third of the month for when I'm back from abroad to see whether a cold high will have been wasted or we can get some decent snow later in the month.
  9. Data availability is indeed the problem. In the same way as I wouldn't do one of these competitions for cold spells without detailed information about snowfall totals, but that's sadly harder to come by the further back you go than temperatures on their own. In this case, though, sunshine totals are not subjective at all. It's another data set, but I understand it's hard to include in something like this.
  10. Some interesting results, especially given 1983 and 1976 were better than their competitors. Would be interesting see these matches with sunshine taken into consideration.
  11. In the grand scheme of things 2021 wasn’t overly wet. There were just short very wet periods, most notably so in May and late Sept / October. It’s also not uncommon for grass to brown over at the surface without water deficit further down. The tell tale sign is how quickly it greens again. Despite a lot of rain, it took a good few weeks for the grass to green again in September 22 but not that long at all in July 23.
  12. So we can conclude that dry spells in spring/summer following copious rain will not present problems. Dry spells following dry preceding autumns and winters often will.
  13. If any water restrictions are announced, it’ll be down to very poor infrastructure, not the weather. Absolutely no excuse for any of that nonsense this year.
  14. The general rule is easterlies are good for getting the cold in, but not the snow. Lows down from the north or up from the south are my favourites.
  15. Happy new year fellow forumers. This year starting off very much where last year left off. Grey and mucky. No fear though. I leave the country next week and I have no doubt the following few weeks will bring glorious winter weather
  16. I notice often that the Horfield one falls way short of realistic sunshine values throughout the year.
  17. Mid June is when I see potential! Oh poo, wrong discussion...
  18. Doesn’t matter. March onwards is spring. No need to ruin that season too just because the previous one couldn’t get its act on!
  19. Not even that tbh. I’m a lightweight now - very much a gym/health nut for the last five years or so. I’m gone after drink 3 or 4 Anyway, back to the weather, and plenty of squally showers rattling through today. Perhaps the only other day of mild interest after the freezing fog on the 02nd.
