Possibly the worst day so far this month as the rain is also accompanied by a howling wind! Feeling less mild too. One might say this is proper Atlantic weather rather than the half arsed rubbish we’ve had so far this month… but it’s still grim! -
cheese Yes it’s actually brighter today than yesterday here. Can see the rain on the radar edging closer though.

Is our climate becoming more predictable?

Until I can plan things ahead with a fairly good idea of what the weather will be like, I would still consider our climate to be unpredictable. A climate like the Mediterranean or the Tropics is more predictable. From one year to the next, there are too many chalk and cheese month eg July 2023 vs 2022 or May 2021 vs 2020… somebody made a thread about it very recently. -
Summer8906 I really hope not! At worst I could take a 2019 or 2020 which at least turned settled and sunny by the equinox.

December 1997 is another one going back a bit. The brief easterly midmonth had a snowy breakdown. Its still amazing how that whole spell just fell apart…

offerman Yes I’m not sure why that is as it seems to be happening over lower rather than higher ground Tomorrow and Monday at least look brighter during the daylight hours. Fingers crossed for sun!

Back in the West Country after a quick trip to Suffolk. Guess what… it’s raining! Amazed how much rain there is given how high the pressure is!

Just been for a very quick visit to east Anglia and it’s noticeable how more springlike it looks compared to back home in North Somerset. Lots more blossoms out and daffodils. Maybe the benefit of being that bit warmer, drier and brighter.

raz.org.rain you mean for the springlike lockdown part or the storminess? For a variety, I’d probably go for a 2020 too.

Assuming winter has behaved, I like mixed marches too. Cold ones are depressing but warm dry ones aren’t normally good news for summer. A blend of 04 and 05 would suit. Otherwise, a March 22 or 03 would do just fine.

dr weather Yes Martyn Hicks’ sounds plausible in Bristol but I think that Clevedon one is questionable. Tomorrow however I think could easily reach those heights if not more as long as it’s not as wet as today.

Weatherman_93 If it were accompanied by blue skies and sunshine, I think more of us would be enamoured by the idea. Having said that, I've never had temperatures that high AND cloud/rain in Feb, so I think it'll be either/or in reality. -
SunSean Talking my language! Sunshine is paramount. I think for any true weather enthusiast, February 2019 was interesting. Granted, I am in a part of the country that had a major snowfall early on, thunder during the brief Atlantic spell shortly after, then of course we all know how the rest of the month went!

Thundery wintry showers and it's funny because I remember quite a bit from 2002 but it's almost all bad or unsettled weather - gales in Jan, Feb, Mar & Apr; a lot of rain in May, dreadful first half of July, thunderstorms in early August, washout rugby match in early September, gales and thunderstorms in late October, incessant rain in November, then early snow in December.

Nice to see these synoptics but can't help but feel like yet another garden path is being laid, or something like this will happen: -
reef This is reality of how this country is becoming. We're now just getting all the same weather we've always had but for much longer periods of time, and proper cold spells have reduced in number. So it's luck of the draw where the good weather and the bad weather settle. Oh for a climate of seasonality...
