  1. The steering winds are ideal for the Stoke area tonight, especially north Stoke...Heavy wintry showers pushing through Merseyside are making a beeline straight for you
  2. Turn your central heating off and poke your head out of the door Mark!...It is not 'shockingly mild' !! ...Four local weather stations are reporting temps between 3-4C with dewpoints between 1.5C & 3C, in my book that's decidedly chilly!... ..ok, current conditions (about 4 miles away from the 'shockingly mild' conditions reported in Stafford!) I can report that a visual inspection of the 'Lamp post' weather station shows blobs of sleety stuff blown in a stiff gusty breeze, and an inspection of the car weatherstation, aka the windscreen, showed blobs of a 'splatty' nature
  3. Yes I was, and the bad news is that I'm about to be resurrected... ....Re. opening the midlands thread, the consensus is that it doesn't quite warrant opening right now, but watch this space in the coming days
  4. I doubt if there will be any settling ppn, more of a flurry or two if anything...Elevation is not on our side (about 100m asl)
  5. Certainly a chance of catching a snow/sleet shower for our neck of the woods...Your only about 5 miles or so from me I believe
  6. Maybe the outside sniff of seeing a few flakes here overnight and into tomorrow (if showers can filter through) dewpoints/temps/atmosphere thickness and 850hpa temps will become condusive to some wintryness.....again depends on whether or not showers can hold together this far inland.....Interesting forecast for the West Midlands (especially Staffs) from the Met Office....to quote...." Headline: Showers dying out, mostly dry and clear overnight. This Evening and Tonight: Showers dying out this evening with it becoming largely dry and clear. Wintry showers across northern Staffordshire, perhaps giving a covering of 5cm of snow over the Staffordshire Moorlands. Cold with a frost developing, especially in rural areas. Minimum temperature -1 °C. Monday: After a cold start, most places having a dry day with some sunny spells. Wintry showers continuing in the north of the region, with one or two elsewhere. Feeling cold. Maximum temperature 5 °C. Updated: 1448 on Sun 4 Dec 2011"
  7. Certainly turned considerably chillier here in the NW Midlands..Currently 5.2C with a dewpoint of 2.9C with squally showers..Almost certainly the coldest daytime temps here since last winter
  8. Northern England seems to be the place to be for weather this year!....A plethora of storms this year as other parts of the UK drew a blank, and the first snowfalls of the winter expected over the next couple of days...Right that's it! I'm moving up north, anyone got a number for Pickfords? ...lol
  9. Just wondering if the xmas skins are going to be available this year & when?....I've just put the xmas tree up and am feeling incredibly festive! :smiliz19:
  10. Yes, I for one, will be keeping my eye out for possible cheshire gap scenarios over the next few days
  11. Fear not, this thread is moderated and will not be allowed to degenerate into a north vs south slanging match!
  12. On yer Bikes!!...We certainly don't approve!...... :w00t:
  13. If certain posters exaggerated snowfall claims (you know, the usual "It's a blizzard here, I've had 10 inches in the past hour" - when they've really had a light 10 minute flurry) are put on the map this winter, then Britain can lay claim to having the most individual micro-climates in the world, the map will be living proof...lol....It will have a polka-dot look to it!
  14. I thought you looked rather fetching in purple last winter Pat!...lol.......I'm hoping for a polka-dot blue & white outfit for this winter, enough to give the midlands posters a headache & eye-strain...lol
  15. My optimistic thoughts on the alleged lack of winter is that pollution must be bad these days, the whole UK & northern Europe has been covered by olive green snow according to that map....lol.....(I'll fetch me coat)
  16. In answer to the thread title, no, I don't believe microwave cooking is bad for me, but my '"other-half's" cooking is  ................................ :winky:
  17. Yep, exciting stuff, and from my perspective, another tick in the box for M-Theory
  18. Winter?....Damn it! I'm still waiting for the Summer 2011 to arrive!
  19. Must admit, I'm trying to understand some of the conflicting posts in here today....How I miss Gibby's model analysis, clear, concise without hidden bias......*sigh* From what I understand, it looks thoroughly mild for most of the model runs with only hints of something more wintery deep in the realms in FI, a reasonable assumption?
  20. A beautiful day yesterday with wall to wall sunshine and warm temperatures, however today it's back to grey featureless skies and feeling distinctly chilly
  21. A wet evening for East Wales and the West midlands as a quite active weather front passed through, persistent heavy rain for about 2 hours giving the garden quite a soaking
  22. Cheers Nick .......I'm sure I can speak on behalf of many others when I say your detailed input is much appreciated for those (like myself) who have partial understanding of the models and wish to learn more...I understand that model discussion is emotive, it's just a tad unfortunate that the thread is often over run with other posts expressing model runs as dire without qualifying why and from which perspective .. ...Anyhoos, I've had my 2 pence worth, I'll bow out and leave the discussion to the more learned
