  1. you think winter's long? lol try living in the mountains in Canada...can turn any snow lover into a crazy person
  2. There's quite a hefty shower over Bury St Edmunds right now moving due south looking to be direct hit for north Kent. Whether it dies out or continues and peps up over the short distance of the estuary is another question
  3. We had the whole week off too. I'm not sure if this was the year the snowline on the radio was formed or 91 but loved waking up listening to the list of school closures. What stuck in my mind was long after the event walking past mounds of piled snow on the pavement taller than me weeks after
  4. lol - I was impressed with the inch that fell around hounslow this morning
  5. Try this...though based from a Canadian perspective describes an Omega block and what it does to the the weather http://www.theweathernetwork.com/news/articles/omega-block-locks-next-weeks-weather-in-place/32623/ (video) and this... http://www.theweatherprediction.com/blocking/
  6. Call me a weirdo but there is nothing like waiting for snow in your own backyard. Having just witnessed a ferious snowstorm that dumped 40 cm's in 16 hours it was great to see but there is something to be said about getting any snow at your home. I was more excited getting home to an inch of snow lol...yup told you i'm weird EML - looking good :-) bring on Thursday
  7. Always keep the faith...just look at 72 hours prior to the '87 madness and everyone was writing any cold weather off. With the cold of Europe so close there's always a chance of it turning on a dime
  8. Its a conspiracy theory - the government eliminated them from winter life circa feb 1991
  9. I think for anyone over 35 the 1987 snows will always be the benchmark....truly remarkable. Even as a kid I knew that I was witnessing something special
  10. I was looking for the countryfile too. Have you seen the Francis Wilson forecast for 1991? quite a classic
  11. This does funny things to my stomach....oh what I'd give to see that again here. I was a wee lad - problem is getting that kind of weather as a kid ruins you for life lol
  12. Good question. When I lived in Canada we were 100's of miles away from any water and it was -7oC and raining one day. Warm upper air and freezing cold at the surface froze the windscreen solid couldnt drive for more than a minute. Very bizarre
  13. Does anyone know where you can get historical radar and chart data? I'm curious to see what the charts looked like for January 1987 for the south east and also any radar imagery as those sea effect showers must have looked pretty amazing. Remember getting 2.5 feet up on the north downs. Maybe 2.5mm's tonight? lol
  14. Driving anti clockwise round the M25 from Heathrow to Medway towns I was amazed that every mile of the journey was affected by snow, most snow around Godstone at probably 3cm's or so and least was around Medway towns at just a splattering though a bit more up on the downs. Nice to see
  15. Just landed at heathrow and snowing nicely and settling. Thought I'd seen the back of the snow in Toronto
  16. This is where I am right now awaiting a flight in about 8 hours....apparantly its not cancelled . Heres the view out the hotel window
  17. Had at least 12 inches of snow here in the last 16 hours near Toronto and still going. I'm due to fly later....hmmmm we'll see lol
  18. My parents back garden in Gartcosh, Glasgow at 10:45am today Edit: doesn't seem to be working but it's heavy snow on top of a few inches trim.6308C37E-C836-4FF9-BB96-869C50596D76.MOV
  19. You do realise that technically winter only started 5 days ago?
  20. Agree BB...Its good to get an outlook past a few days.....keep them coming JP
  21. Well we managed 22cm's in the end so not bad though most of it came in the first 6-7 hours. The next few days look cool with occasional snow but nothing too much then a warm up next week
  22. It appears this thread is a starting place for many a romance lol....must be the weather. I am chuckling though at the entertainment in here tonight. On a weather note I am getting a weather station fitted in my second home in Kent, aka the in laws, so will be able to keep a track on it even closer. Amazing to see some sub zero temperatures around....May you say? Hoping all plants are protected. Looking ahead in the south east looking at slightly warmer with sunny periods and maybe some light rain by end of week. Enjoy! I'm a tad jealous....'do u wanna build a snowman?'
  23. Still forecasting upwards of 2 feet of snow here for the next 3 days. If so I will endeavour to bore you all with lots of pics :-)
