  1. Beeb weather presenters were keen to stress the long Easter weekend wouldn't be a write off a couple of days ago. Well with Good Friday virtually done that's one written off cold, wet crap day out of one so far. Three to go!
  2. After we have left the EU I presume we will no longer be compelled to follow European directives as to the date when the clocks go forward and back. The start of BST over the last weekend in March is two weeks later than the commencement of daylight saving time in the USA and Canada. In my opinion here in the UK this is a needless waste of daylight at a time when the length of days and nights are roughly equal and very short days are long gone. If we do anything on the clocks why not start daylight saving in the second rather than final weekend in March and align with our friends across the Atlantic. .
  3. It is interesting to see how the much vaunted increased power of the sun by the last day of February has little impact on thick snow cover and indeed the feel of the day when we get a genuinely cold airstream like this one.
  4. Cold zonality is an over-rated commodity away from Scotland and higher ground in the north western half of England and Wales. Much of this month has been under that heading yet the CET is going to be 1C above norm.
  5. GFS downgrading the chances of a longer spell of Feb cold again in the 12z run. By the time we actually get there we'll be basking in mild swlies
  6. Well given they've named "storms" that didn't produce much more than a bit of a breeze down here perhaps they should have. Especially as my neighbours tree lost a huge branch that narrowly missed falling on to the A26.
  7. In terms of wintriness the far south east is usually the worst placed location in the UK to be when the type of WNW Polar Maritime flow we have this week becomes established. Just like those in the west of Scotland often wonder what the fuss is about when one of sadly those all too rare potent beasts from the east do develop when we are in the front line for snow and severe cold and they "bask" in 5C and sun.
  8. Sorry about having a whinge but it gets it out the system. Really not enjoying the mild tropical maritime mush that's flooded in over the last 24 hours and which it looks like we'll be afflicted with until Boxing Day. Not conducive into feeling festive at all and so typical of most recent Christmases. I think it feels all the worse because of the bracing weather we have been having..
  9. Looks like another mild Christmas Day with the bane of recent Xmases tropical maritime air flooding over the south. Christmas Day itself seems to be remarkably unlucky with lack of snow even in Dec 2010 and Dec 1981 the severely cold snowy month had nearly run out of steam by the day itself. We have to go back to Dec 1970 (I think from the top of my head) for a classic snow falling and settling fairytale day in the south of the UK.
