I can see some showers miles out to sea!
Oh no! I imagine that’ll also be us on the south coast on Wednesday! Hoping we all get to see a bit of snow this week.

Just to keep a bit of interest going the GEM pivots Wednesday's low up across Kent.
And ECM moves if further north running along southern coastal counties.
I will take any crumb of hope so thank you
This morning has started sunny and colder, currently coldest it’s been since midnight at -0.3c and a DP of -2.7c.
Good luck today for any snow showers clipping those of you in Norfolk and Suffolk!

I’ll take a 30% chance. Last Monday’s snow was lovely to see falling but I’d like to see a covering.
Early February 2021 was last laying snowfall here, we had falling snow periodically from 7th - 11th February and snow on the ground until 14th. Not bad for far SE (though 2010 was better)

I wonder which way they are facing, today!
Wasn’t it if they’re facing east we’re onto a winner?
Fascinating weather watching at the moment. After Monday’s under forecasting of the snow, I’m interested to see where this all goes over the next week or two

Also no frost here with the strong breeze - currently 0.7c but feeling much colder.
I see there’s regional squabbling again in the model thread. Some saying it’s great at day 9 for snowmageddon (when will they learn) when M4 south is under rain. How they think it’s going to end that way I don’t know, let alone being so confident they start up with the “well it’s great for us” party.
Edit: I note that when someone more southerly mentions it looks great for the north and they just hope it improves for south they still get shouted at!- 2

Just caught the edge of one of the yellow blobs going down the channel and it was heavy for a couple of minutes. At the moment all the good stuff is off the coast in this area.
What did fall laid readily though so for those of you who do get the convergence zones later it should be all good.

If it is in the form of a northerly then it will probably be sunny here lol
Better that than the recent deluge I suppose. Will take cold and sunny over the rain.

If you believe what you read in the MOD thread then from the 15th of January onwards a new ice age cometh and probably goweths a week later lol
Not for us southerners. They seem quite insistent it’s not for us

Made a conscious effort not to look at the radar for a bit rather than looking frame to frame and this happened!
Using the link @Tom Quintavalle added earlier is good as shows what’s coming out of the continent:

Look on the bright side, the longer we go without proper snow, as painful as that is, the better the averages turn in our favour for a white out!
I agree, some of us SE’ies are well overdue a proper blizzard. While some in Kent/SE overall did very well last couple of winter’s, there was nothing here.
I know today won’t be like that but, I’m hoping for a 1997(?) or 2010 style fall at some stage this winter. There was also a very good one early 80’s I can just about remember, maybe 1982. Some of that please weather gods- 1

Despite the radar showing snow, it’s raining lightly. Like Alexis in Dover, I think by the time the proper cold uppers arrive later, it’ll be too late for us with the positioning of the precipitation.

Where's the best place to see DP's for a location please?
This is a good one for current dew points. I like that you can scan back over the last few hours too to see how the cold air is moving about:

They just hate the fact that the SE does well for snow in an E -NE'ly
A few years back when I lived a mile or so further inland but about 100m higher it snowed one evening. I posted a short video of it and was told I was lying by a non-SE member. Made me laugh.

What's not true? It was sleeting here, and a few flakes earlier too
Yes, it was sleety here in heavier bursts too

Holding steady around 4.5c here this afternoon, 7.7mm of rain (if only it was snow, the rough 1mm = 1cm would have made for a nice covering!)
What time are the lower 850’s due over our area?

Annoying the dew pints are just a little too high this morning otherwise we’d be full of posts about surprise snowfall. Maybe the highest points in Kent might be seeing some very wet snow or sleet this morning? But here, just regular rain (as usual)
Temp: 3.8c
Dew Point: 3.4c
Rain: 4.09mm (and can hear it on the roof so more to be added to that total)

A very good Evening, all.
Much thanks to Snow Queen one, Methuselah, Froze were the Days, pinball wizard, and Kentspur, for your kind messages above.
Yes, I'm determined to remain positive and treatment for Prostate Cancer, has come on leaps and bounds, in the last few Years.
I've had a pep talk from my eldest Sister, who used to be a Secretary in the Radiology at the Sloane Hospital, in Beckenham and confirmed that a diagnosis of P.C. is not so much "doom and gloom", as it was a few Years ago.
As I had a near fatal Haemorrhagic Stroke in Sept. 2015, removal of my Prostate Gland will not be the likely route to recovery.
I'm much more likely to have an intensive course of Radiotherapy, every Day for 6 to 8 Weeks, beginning later on in January.
That's the reason for once in my Life, I don't want to see too much Snow. Sidcup is quite a bit colder than where my Wife and myself live.
Speaking of the Weather, it looks as if there will be a bit of a "false Dawn", regarding the beginning of the predicted Cold Spell.
I've taken the statement below, from the Met Office Website:
Steven Keates is a Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster. He said: “The colder conditions across the UK are likely to be established for some time and will be a key theme of next week’s weather. However, the beginning of next week is likely to see the lowest temperatures of this colder spell, and by the end of next week we should start to see a gradual rise in values, at least for a time.”
To my untrained eye, it does look as if any noticeable Cold is likely to come from the North, rather than the East.
And we know from experience for the majority of our Region, that's not a great direction for Snow, courtesy of the dreaded "Wishbone Effect" - , with the majority of any possible Sleet/Snow Showers, eventually pecking away at North facing Coastal areas,
If some very cold air could become entrenched our Region's best chance of any appreciable Snow, may come courtesy of a Channel type Low Pressure system riding up against the embedded cold, as it approaches from the South West in time.
I'll end this post with a Youtube clip of the extended Met Office Forecast, courtesy of Alex Deakin:
Oh dear, there seems to be a lot of toys being thrown out of prams and recriminations, on the Mad Thread after the 12z Model runs. Mmm, little sign of High Pressure retrogressing to Greenland but more a case of some Members retrogressing to their childhoods!!
At the moment the Form Horse appears to be an area of High Pressure located close to the North of the U.K., with not much of a signal for anything Wintry, falling from the Sky. There doesn't seem much appetite for a "Beast from the East" type scenario, currently.
Looks like a case of "Faux Cold" for a while, with some Frost and Fog about.
But at least it will give our Region a chance to dry out, after such a wet start to 2024, courtesy of those "Pests from the West".
Regards,
Tom Q.
As your sister has said, things are a lot more positive regarding this type of cancer. The ability to catch it early and get treatment started is so much better. Good luck for when the treatment gets going.
And good luck to those of us hoping for a few snow flakes on Monday. It’d be nice if we get a taster to then be delivered the main course the following week

Interesting how the amber warning isn’t down to the south coast, despite the higher gusts being expected there. I suppose maybe because we’re used to 50-60mph gusts?
Already up to 16mm of rain today

I've not seen that. It looks too trashy to be remotely enjoyable. Have you seen Greenland? A relatively well praised (if not equally silly) disaster movie, from Butler.
Greenland is silly but enjoyable, apparently there’s going to be a second one.
I love a good weather and/or disaster film; GeoStorm is verging on the almost too silly but was ok enough.- 1

Broken my cold record on my station here overnight! Forecast low was -2 but the lowest was a short while ago at -5.6c and is now -5.0c. Not bad for this locale!
We have a small frost hollow effect here, being in a shallow dip, so there’s no wind at all. Up at my dad’s on the cliffs of Capel it’s not gotten below -4c as he’s not lost the breeze.
