Been a fire at a farm in Ashford that started Wednesday, and is still burning. Not sure if it's that as wind direction shouldn't bring that your way. Other than that I often think fog and mists smell smoky.
Think it must have been a local large bonfire someone had overnight, was a very strong smell when I went outside properly.
Nice this evening, down to 13.6c which feels much fresher than of late

Wtf, was that temp flagged by models in advance, if not this air mass is hotter than thought.
I saw they expected it to break records, just maybe not by that margin. I think today is meant to be even hotter in France and some parts of Spain with records falling.

Overcast and still to start the week, currently 15c.
Can any of you smell smoke outside this morning? It has smelt like a bonfire on and off for a few days but particularly noticeable this morning. I know there was some talk of Canadian wildfire smoke being brought over with the westerlies but not sure if it is that or not?

I take no pleasure in finding and sharing these feeds, but do it as the more people that become aware of our frightening temperature anomalies, both above surface, and seas, lakes, the more likely it is that some groundswell of action will ferment.
I dont want to politicise this, but the shameful way our present self serving government is trashing our environment, rivers and seas, along with stepping backwards on green promises, will undoubtedly go down in history as a disastrous time in short sighted vision.
Rich people drown too you know!!
Kirkcaldy weather is doing a very similar thing alongside, with a bit more in depth climate information. Most of this doesnt hit the headlines, so making it more visible is important.
Agree, and now our current government wants to downplay and push back what was already a minimal effort to address climate change.
Sorry for detailing the thread, always one of the more interesting to follow on the forum.

I'm not liking them either, the trophie means thank you. I press that to thank the poster for the info.
Yep, not sure that always feels right either. I think a shocked face would be most appropriate in most of these (I know that’s not a thing, just saying)

I don’t like “liking” these posts as there’s nothing to like about what is happening at all but thank you Matty for sharing.
It feels like we’ve reached the pinnacle of a rollercoaster, have gone over the top and are hurtling down the other side with no seatbelt on and no way to stop what’ll happen when we reach the bottom.

Up to 20.9c briefly here today after a low of 9c overnight. Nice all round as not too warm but felt pleasant in the sunshine this afternoon

Actually had a short storm, nothing too loud or close by but still a few rumbles. Heavy rain for a few minutes, 8mm in about 10 minutes. Eased off already.
IOW to Brighton looking like they could be having a bad time of it

Looks like Brighton along to Selsey could have a fun time shortly

Heavy rain and lightning in Dover, from whatever just built here.
Heard a rumble and can see lightning but no rain here. Your shower came from nothing in a few minutes!

Yep, I take a good downpour even just to clear the air

After a lovely chilly start with a bit of grass mist, it’s been a horrible 25.7c here today.
Looking forward to next week

I doubt it
25.7c here today (forecast high was 24c) and forecast 24c tomorrow so expect similar as today, around 25c maybe.
Back up to 25c upstairs, looking forward to the weather next week.

It’s still so humid, 23.1c and haven’t had a drop of rain. And it’s 28c upstairs so that’s not going to be fun trying to sleep tonight

This is a great idea; I’m so interested in how these events are linked and/or their downstream effects so this is an excellent thread.

Just wonder if the same thread for winter 23-24 will appear soon. Last year it was early on 22 Aug.
I was looking at this yesterday!
@Turnedoutniceagain was kind enough to start last year’s thread and @Midlands Ice Age always provides lots of info - didn’t want to get a thread started in case one of you were prepping something
