While watching Fox 10 live last night for the tornado outbreaks in US, they updated their winter forecast. It showed low heights over Greenland for the whole of January and only building into February. High pressure over Siberia only advecting cold over eastern and central Europe in January, keeping UK in a maritime flow for most of the time, with occassional incursions of cold.
If heights do indeed stay low over Greenland, then that will upset a lot of LRF's touted on NW as earlier in the month the US were forecasting Greenland High pressure block for January, giving them a colder than average outlook, now a complete turnaround.
Will be interesting to see how various LRF's pan out next month, but my thoughts on a colder outlook are now dwindling
