  2. Lol Carl, so true... but.... I really think it's probably to do with the long extended winter this year.Plenty more of summer to come yet
  3. Thunderstorm may strike Gloucestershire tonight By The Citizen Friday, May 17, 2013 FOLLOW A THUNDERSTORM could strike Gloucestershire tonight. Weather forecasters say there is a more than 50 per cent chance of thunder and lightning and heavy rain at around 6pm. Lightning strike Temperatures are expected to hover around the low teens today. Sunny spells will be interspersed with showers. with bursts of sunshine interspersed throughout the day. http://www.gloucestercitizen.co.uk/Thunderstorm-strike-Gloucestershire-tonight/story-19014881-detail/story.html
  4. Oh well, I'm back again for this year! at least we still have the summer to go yet grrrrr Get the booze stocked up please Phil lol
  5. I agree Carl . Now,there's something on the way here coming from the west and South west according to radar! and oh my, the sky is looking even more threatening
  6. Yes, it's called patience. Always a hit and miss affair too.I'm the most impatient person in the world but I'm patient when it comes to storms as I know they can take hours to set off and that's from past experiences from years ago when I got one Lol
  7. Looking very stormy here lots of convection building with bright sunshine and dark clouds.
  8. It's beautiful, hot and sunny here Fingers crossed for later. A great start for the day.
  9. This photo taken 4 days ago showing 5 eggs. As from today my blue tit now has nine eggs altogether and has started incubating. Twelve days or more and then the eggs will hatch.
  10. Please note: only a slight risk! but it's better than nothing. Slight Risk of Isolated Thunderstorms 10Z-19Z Thurs 18th April Wales, Central & Southern UK Regions Filling low pressure NE of Scotland maintains cyclonic flow across UK through period. Long wave upper trough extends eastward increasing lapse rates and environmental lift. A number of weak surface trough expected to develop across SW regions by mid morning and transit eastward across the UK bringing blustery convective showers with small hail and possibly thunder. A line from central Wales through to Humber looks quite active with GFS and WRF channeling the best instability. Initially potential instability looks to be somewhat hindered by a layer of heavy mid level moisture. Though this is soon replaced by a very dry incursion which should prop up a second round of vigorous convection (all be it relatively shallow). There looks to be limited moisture at surface with a broadening gap between surface temps and dew points. The end result might therefore favour more isolated and relatively high based storm activity. Winds look straight lined at all levels and lacking in surface convergence so the outcome doesn't look to be very organised. Though having said that there is scope for vertical speed shear so one or two storms may well become dominant for a time with the prime risk gusty winds with hail. The main non condusive factor at play for this outlook will sadly be the position of the rear left exit region of the jet stream which will act as a cap to any lifted parcel above 500mb. 11. No Swallows here yet! although when they do arrive and they eventually start breeding I shall be monitoring their nest up in the barn . No frog spawn as of yet but there's good news regards the nesting activity of the birds in my garden .Two out of of my four nest boxes have Blue tits nest wiggling and beginning to bring in nesting material and my regular Long tailed tit visitors have built a nest in the conifers, so it's all looking good.
  12. Posted Thurs 9pm Moderate Risk of Thundery Hail Showers Primarily Central and SEastern Regions 12Z-19Z Fri 12th April 13 Weak low pressure system continues to move eastward. Upper long wave trough introduces steep upper lapse rates increasing lift. Surface troughing once again expected to bring convective showers to many parts with hail and thunder. A small risk of some thundery activity during the early hrs of Fri morning for Cornwall. Though prime attention is focused on central to Thames Valley regions later in the period where a moderate mid level divergent jet stream moves further east and could well increase 0-6km shear values enough for the development of an isolated organised storm cell. Current indications based on WRF and GFS overlay of CAPE to upper shear suggest maybe Oxford through to North London from around 3pm. This is not to say the parameter is there for a supercell but moreover one or two organised stronger storms with moderate sized hail will be possible. The trigger for this later activity looks to be a combination of 500 mb PVA advection and surface convergence. 0-3km helicity values look rather weak and the full vertical forecast wind profiles look fairly straight lined.Bucks and Fairford forecast sounding show CAPE right up to 350mb with freezing level around the LCL. So in short;... tall cloud tops with deep cooling down to cloud base might suggest some larger hail reports possible. http://www.ukweatherworld.co.uk/forum/index.php?/topic/97625-convective-outlook-fri-12th-april-13/
  13. No Ravens seen here yet Bobby. All four of my Blue tit nest boxes are being investigated once again now that the weather has turned milder . A late start this year after a prolonged cold spell. Things should start getting interesting now.
  14. Please stay on topic and stop sniping at each other as you should know all snipey posts will be deleted!! thank you .
  15. And not forgetting Estofex Storm Forecast Valid: Sat 16 Mar 2013 06:00 to Sun 17 Mar 2013 06:00 UTC Issued: Fri 15 Mar 2013 21:50 Forecaster: TUSCHY A level 1 was issued for SW UK mainly for an isolated large hail and tornado risk. http://www.estofex.org/
  16. It's sure going to be cold here for the Cheltenham races .The past few years on race week has always been sunny and spring like.
  17. Roll on storm season not long to go now. Let's hope 2013 is a good year. Good luck y'all
  18. Yep, it's already been seen at the beginning of this thread ta . Maybe you could post something here too. Cheers! It's awful isen't it cerne? any idea what the substance is yet?
  19. At roosting time again this afternoon a different Blue tit tried to get in the same box but the regular blue tit fought him off. The second blue tit is still roosting up on the camera . Such fascinating behavior. Blue tits are very territorial and this is so unusual. Wrens and Sparrows are well known to huddle together to roost but blue tits will fight other blue tits and will not tolerate one another. The great tit has no problems in her box with other birds trying to take over. She is still in every afternoon without fail. I dug over the new vegetable patch today.I'm really missing gardening.Just want the garden to come alive again. It's been a nice sunny day albeit still very windy. Fed up with the rain it ruins all my bird food and drowns my plants.
  20. I agree Cerneman, awful weather! I tried to tidy the garden just now but the damn wind is back again grrrrrr. Anyway, regards the birds at the weekend I saw the Robin, Sparrow, LTT, Blues,Great tit,Gold finch,Green finch,Starling,Blackbird and Fieldfare. How well did you do?
