  1. I seen all the usual garden regulars here.I cant find my list at the moment but will let you know later.Oh, how I wish Spring would hurry up!
  2. The Wind is terrible out there. I lost my greenhouse across the field last night It did calm down this morning but it's now started again .Certainly not looking forward to Friday to say the least.
  3. Very strong winds here. My plastic greenhouse which I thought was secure against the wall has gone and collapsed and flown right across the field over the hedge. Lucky my bird boxes are still ok though.
  4. All done here too. Only 9 different types here today.I usually see more but it has been a tad windy today which I think hasen't helped and has kept most of them to a minimum.
  5. Yes will do. Let's hope the blueys use my nest boxes Lol. I've got to video the two blue tits that are sharing the one nest box to roost and send it to the RSPB . They have never known this to happen and find it fascinating behaviour. Bitter cold out there today with the strong Northerly wind. I'm certainly not looking forward to the heavy rain on its way, the fields are gradually thawing out now and are twice as boggy as they were before the snow arrived.
  6. Oooh is that your house cerneman? Ah yes, I can't wait for spring, sunny days with the odd thunderstorm or two thrown in and watching nature come alive again, and not forgetting the birds a nesting Yes, I so love Spring , roll on spring.
  7. Thanks cerneman good pics of yours too. My dog adores the snow she even refused to come back home today so I had to keep throwing snowballs until she tired out lol. Being as she is a Springer it's nothing unusual lol. She could run for hours and hours. Sadly she's getting a lot older now but she still has that springer energy in her. Talking of seagulls there were about hundred or so of white headed gulls flying overhead today. What a noise they make. The farmer usually fires a gun to scare them off but he didn't today. Flocks of starlings in the garden again today grrrrr lol I wouldn't mind them coming in to eat as long as they left some of the food for the small birds. I still have the two blueys roosting in the nestbox. It's quite funny to watch how one of them gets in early before the regular one and hides up on the camera to roost and the regular one dosen't even know this Lol. It's been the same routine for the past few nights now.
  8. There is now a foot deep of settled snow in the fields today with little animal footprints imprinted deeply across the snow drifts. Fox, rabbit , roe deer and tiny bird imprints everywhere. I captured a nice pic of a Long tail and a Blue happily sharing food right outside my window today. One Field fare only seen today and no red wings spotted as yet.
  9. Having problems with the focusing aspect of your camera? Then please discuss here.Thank you.
  10. I am cerneman. Only just been to the garden center for more bird food and I've also cooked some pastry and bought lots of cheap sponge from Tesco lol All feeders full again and the birds are going mad.Lots of gold finches are fighting There's a free suflower heart feeder with the latest gardeners world magazine if your local garden center does it,so I got a free sunflower heart feeder this morning. I now have two sunflower heart feeders as, they are so popular with the birds . Regards water I've sorted out the pond and bird baths and the birds have everything lol.
  11. Yay, the snow is here for some so let's start the day with a new thread here. http://forum.netweather.tv/topic/75626-south-westcentral-southern-england-regional-discussion-18th-januray-onwards/ Looking forward to your pics. Will be locking this thread in a minute or so.Have fun all.
  12. It's snowing and here's a brand new thread for a brand new day. Have fun in the snow wherever you are but do take care and don't forget to post up your snow reports and snowy pics too.
  13. And another from null on facebook ( thanks for the updates Keithy) The West Country braces for Heavy Snowfall, due to hit the region during the early hours of Friday, just in time for the School run. Snow totals still 10-15cm+ in the West and North of the region ie. Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and parts of Somerset, around 10cm across Swindon, locally more. Major disruption is likely. Travel should be avoided if at all possible. What is even more concerning is the developing weather situation for Monday with the potential of another (similar type) event which could bring another 10cm or more. Potentially by Tuesday some parts of our region could see around 1 foot of snow. It's absolutely essential that you all keep checking my updates and be aware severe disruption is very likely. The confidence on Monday is still low, but we are definitely concerned. Some seriously snowy weather coming our way, stay safe folks!
  14. Yes, Thermo is a good forecaster like many others of course.
  15. Hi Sean, could you please put your location in your profile settings so we at least know where you are from . Thank you.
  16. Still hoping for a Nuthatch to appear as well as a couple of other winter visitors. The Long tailed tits are still visiting a few times a day especially first thing in the mornings and then at dusk. I'm feeding them cake which is all they seem to want Lol. There's twice as many birds on the feeders now I expect this is due to the snow on it's way this weekend.( that's providing it happens of course).
  17. Thanks for the advice cerneman. Yes I have all 3 boxes facing North at about 7 ft high. The boxes are well worn and all have a different size metal plate around the entrance holes. The Great tit has the great tit plate, the blue tit has the wrens and the box in the tree has the sparrows.I like the sound of the letter box you put up . It's amazing what some will nest in. I recently read an interesting article about 'strange nest sites' .One of the reports were of a pair of blue tits taking up residence inside a ashtray outside a train station and another one of blue tits setting up home on top of traffic lights on a busy road. Anyway I'll try the half opened topped nest box you mentioned, it'll be really interesting to see who pops in.
  18. BTO Bird Migration Blog Taking flight During late October and early November a huge number of Redwings, Fieldfares and Blackbirds arrived on the east coast of Britain. These quickly moved inland and spread out across the country. Take a walk in the countryside now and it is clear that many of these birds have moved on, moving even further south in search of a suitable wintering area, or more importantly a more reliable source of food, probably in western France and northern Iberia. The BTO Winter Thrushes survey is now focusing on birds seen during winter walks. Take part here. Another example of this can be seen in the Waxwing numbers this winter. In November and early December there were around 5,000 birds here. Currently there are only around 1,500 in the country and there have been reports of birds seen leaving the Kent coast. Snow and ice brings difficulties for many more birds as their food becomes hidden or locked under frozen water surfaces. In these conditions Kingfishers and herons are known to move to the coast where the saline waters largely remain ice-free. Lapwings, Skylarks and Wood Pigeons movements at this time can be spectacular and these too will also leave the country if they have to. During prolonged periods of snow and ice on the near continent, Britain’s estuaries come into their own, offering a lifeline for many species of waders and waterfowl. As temperatures bite we could see an influx of Smew, Goldeneye and Tundra Bean Geese. http://btomigrationblog.blogspot.co.uk/
  19. Noooo, definitely has to be snow 5 ft of it no really, just a flake or two will do lol
  20. Awww, I'm still waiting to see my first waxwings. All the apples have now gone from the ground now. I had 8 Blackbirds peering in through the patio doors early this morning waiting for me to put some food out for them. I'm having a bit of trouble at the moment with one of my blues nest box! for the past two days at roosting time 4.30pm, another blue tit is trying to take over my present blue tits box and boy do they fight inside the box. It's a shame as there is another blue tit box vacant high up in the tree at the front of the house but there's no interest to roost in it although I have had a few look in daily but that's about it. I decided to add another nest box today out the back along the same wall as the other blue tits box but this one has no cam in so I'm not sure whether the other one will use it. Any advice would be most appreciated.
  21. Lol Carl, Let's just hope we're not back in the ol No Storms Club again for this year .
  22. Very light snow here in Swindon village Chelt
