  1. And with a name like Buzzit, you should certainly know best. I must say, we do need to respect all wildlife, even wasps I guess, which aren't high on my "to admire list". The Natural World is facing biodiversity losses all over and these critters at the bottom of the food chain need more respect than ever.
  2. Without reading through the complete article, I concur that I believe wildfires are already having an impact. Not least, to the wildlife and human losses associated with them, but also the habitat destruction they inflict. Add to this, the fact that woodland/heathland regeneration can't keep pace and the changing global scale weather patterns and Arctic ice melt increases. I feel the futures for our wildlife and human inhabitants are indeed very bleak. I remain convinced however, that there is hope, when we can have sensible debate about the causes and put our words and ideas into action, collaboratively. Anyway, off to bed, time for a lie down.
  3. They honestly do. Its best you go careful when searching the internet for that particular description, however.
  4. There's something about that image, that reminds me of a Basking Shark or maybe its a Great White? Thanks again for these most professional of summaries.
  5. Not too far off track, really. All interconnected as in nature itself, if we look after the things at the bottom of the food chain (well at least study them more) the predators higher up the food chain should get to live in unison. CC, at least you didn't mention the reliability of the CFS in this thread.
  6. Now you're just showing off. Joking aside, what a butterfly magnet they are. Every garden should have one and I concur with ARTDEMOLE, Lavender is certainly an attractant as well.
  7. Yes I suspect we do, we are lacking Model Output Discussion too it seems, judging by the last five or so posts. I'll see if I can arrange one, but please stick to the rules.
  8. Not an expert and without Googling it I can't be certain, but the eye like features suggest it is. It is most definitely a hawk moth caterpillar of sorts.
  9. An update to my post from earlier, sferics recently showing up off the coast, SW of Salcombe in Devon.
  10. That is stunning, just like the numbers back in the 80s and 90s. However, I do suspect that some of these individuals may involve migrant Small Tortoiseshells (assuming that species does indeed migrate). Given the numbers of Clouded Yellows turning up in places as well, it is certainly likely. I learnt from Springwatch 2013 that even Large Whites were known to migrate up from Southern Europe, amazing creatures.
  11. Indeed mushy, and a plea to all. If people can leave them be, especially as we approach the winter season, the next generation may become as plentiful next Summer as they were during this one.
  12. Certainly appears to be, yes and now one SE of and over Plymouth too.
  13. Is that stuff coming in from the West connected with a frontal feature or anything and is it likely to pep up a bit? Having re-read AWDs analysis from yesterday, it appears not. Nevertheless, it could be radar watching day for parts of Devon and Cornwall should one get the chance.
  14. Not too much kicking off yet just now, according to the radar but there are a few speckly bits (anaprop?) showing up. Maybe it's AJs speckled hens? Top post in the MOD thread, AJ, well said in response to Tooty's original comment. 24.8c here, looks like the Max. DP is 16.3c currently, but rather variable. Air Pressure falling slowly 1017.0mb
  15. I love the Otter, I especially like the area around Budleigh Salterton for long walks.
  16. I like that phrase , saves the need to keep mentioning one's location. NIMBY is not a phrase I particularly concur with, though. When something benefits the wider community, what's it termed then? IMBYIFWW maybe, "in my back yard it f'ing works wonderfully"
  17. My eyes are on it, but as in recent days and weeks, they appear to taking a diversion around Newbury.
  18. You just couldn't make it up, someone check the radar for my location, as shown in my profile. Talk about near miss.
  19. You don't want to do that too often, this is what happened to a friend of mine when she thought she was protected from the thundery elements.
  20. Of course, I wouldn't have it any other way. Just a few posts that don't mention your location in every sentence, would be good. What is it doing with you now, is it warming up? Might need it to get to the magic 21c or so before any showers kick off, I reckon. Ha, ha beat me to it. Good stuff.
  21. Now reached 20.3c in the sunshine here in my location. Slowly but surely, things are indeed improving. A similar day is expected tomorrow, in fact, at least according to the BBC it was, a cloudy start but a gradual improvement come mid-morning onwards.
  22. Indeed, things are now looking up, bar the odd isolated shower, its a getting better type of day now. Up to 18.2c now, it may even reach 20/21c at this rate? BBC News 24 still insistent that 22c will be reached quite widely.
