  1. Well I had one distant rumble of Thunder earlier from the cell that passed over the West Berkshire area. That makes my total, two Thunder days for the year now with the other one, just a few days ago. During the heavier precipitation, the rain was showing signs of turning to sleet on occasion too.
  2. I often like to live in FI but it rarely ends up looking like that. Welcome aboard Bill, if you are still around, can you please update your profile to show your location.
  3. Signs of something warmer in the latest netweather forecast. Bear in mind, I believe this is based on the latest GFS output only though. http://www.netweathe...tion=10day;sess= Nevertheless, several double-digit day Maximums in the offing from Saturday onwards. Could it be that the Spring Equinox has finally removed all chances of something wintry? Yes, quite possible that will change and beefy showers will often bring something briefly resembling winter, but I do find the Spring Equinox connection (starts on 20th March, so a day or two earlier than I suggest above) a touch uncanny. What we can't get away from it seems, are the lashings of frontal rain from time to time. If things work out strictly according to their seasons though, then I and the unheard voices coming from the natural world will be very happy indeed. Each to their own of course, now let's have some convective Thunderstorms interspersed with much needed drier interludes.
  4. Not much chance of this particular eyecatching model output either, for a while at least. Err sorry, wrong country.
  5. Darn wet that's for sure. I can't believe I've had more than you in March so far with 83.4mm and counting with the drip drip drip of snowmelt being added right now. We have been hit hard in recent days, as Polar Bear alluded to yesterday. However, nothing in comparison to the weeks of dullness and rain that some have had though.
  6. First signs of which, may be coming into the Southwest as I type. I do like convective weather and I also do like moaning about the weather too, but who doesn't. I guess you Mapantz have reached triple-digit rainfall readings, every month for the last twelve, have you not?
  7. Well put Mark. Yes, there was a brief window of drier weather which lasted something like up to ten days or so I believe, but if you listen to the farming programs like I do (what an anorak I am? ) Looking at the broader picture, the agricultural industry and yes, it is an industry, a vital one at that, is facing one problem after problem right now, none of which will be resolved overnight unless Mother Nature comes to the rescue once again. Without farming, we don't get food on our tables, without the wildlife-friendly approach we can't reap the benefits, simples. I am talking from a global perspective here as well, because the onions (no pun intended) truly hit the fan, all across the globe last year, I can tell you. Thinking positively, the future is in our hands and we should learn to deal with the extremes because they are here to stay IMHO. I am now expecting to read of 70F being reached come Easter, so snow to heatwaves in the matter of days.
  8. You're absolutely spot on Bumpkin. Agriculture has enough issues right now but you know what, the current ones are largely brought about the changing climate. Sadly, there is not a lot us humans can do, other than pray for something sunnier and drier around the corner. Of course, our climate is ever-changing, simply due to the fact we are an island surrounded by sea on all sides and a spell of HP dominated will arrive eventually. One question bugs me though, just how much damage has mankind already inflicted on the world, by abusing the natural ecosystem and thereby stripping it of all its resources. We can't expect the climate to remain unaltered, by not accepting we are part of the problem. You and I will do our bit because we both work close to the land and we understand that we should not abuse it, both short-term and longer-term. Best stop now as I'm ranting and some of the above perhaps belongs in another thread, but at least I've got it off my chest. One or two days are looking warmer in the outlook, so that can only be good. Also, I don't believe it’s over wet until the end of the week, so good news there. 0.8mm so far today in Newbury, 81.8mm in total, so I reckon I can expect yet another triple-digit monthly rainfall figure and I'm in one of the drier regions too.
  9. Ok, its only the very first signs of a possible change in the modelling but after the "will it snow, will it rain?" scenario at the weekend, it could be getting warmer with Temperatures at least up to average, if not above on occasion. http://forum.netweat...00#entry2645290 My gut feeling should be pleased as I had this to say, a few days ago. My comment coming on the back of another wonderful analysis from Gibby. http://forum.netweat...00#entry2639358 So, come the final week of March, I believe we will start to see a general warming trend with the snow risk pushing further North. Or will we? A final comment though, it is however looking desperately wet too, longer-term as well.
  10. Well I've kept hold of my snow cover from yesterday here in Newbury. I cannot remember many days in mid-March where the snow didn't melt away sufficiently enough to lose the general coverage. Whether I've got the 50% or more required for an official day of lying is debatable but the patchy snow cover remains on roofs and grass surfaces. From a low of -2.4c, we are sitting at 0.1c so can expect nearly all of the lying snow to be gone within a few hours. All in all, I've been amazed at what March has proved it can produce and for any warmth lovers, we are far from out of the woods yet.
  11. I'll pass on that one, I can't give an explanation other than the subsequent rain and thawing along with a little bit of breeze might have helped. That truly is a stunning picture, very well done.
  12. Keep the pictures coming from those lucky enough to have seen the white stuff. What an amazing day. I have recorded some pics and video but my caemra will need recharging, so I'll have to make do with other's observations. 0.5c here and still it snows.
  13. Now settling at the roads and pavements in Newbury. My AT hasn't budged much, mind you. It is hovvering around the 0.6c mark. My 9am snow observation was approximately 10mm of slushy cover. Five snow days in March so far but today is one of those rare ones where the snow has settled on all surfaces. Amazing to think, we are so close to the Spring Equinox too.
  14. Two questions. What are the biggest snowflakes anyone has witnessed? Some of the flakes coming down in Newbury are almost 1/2 to 1 inch across, yes, wet variety but snowflakes nevertheless. Second question, when I read my 9am covering, well at least attempt to, it is very slushy, is this regarded as an official day of snow lying? Any help appreciated.
  15. The whole band of precipitation is very slowly edging Eastwards, whilst the individual cells are moving from directly South to North.
  16. Well I had a Thunder day yesterday with five to six flashes lightening up the skies as the sun was setting, perfect! Now today, I wake up to some sleety flakes, a slushy but decent covering on everything bar the wet roads. And we're not finished yet, there is more to come when looking at the radar. This weather sure is entertaining.
  17. Dark as night, I think I'll be joining the Thunder club any time soon.
  18. I'm holding out hope that I get a rumble or two from that stuff out to my immediate west, but even that is skipping my area so far.
  19. And I thought you ruled over the weather. I just wish I understood half of what those charts mean, one day I will focus more of my attention on understanding them. At least, I can the rest of the plain english spoken in here. Things are looking good, oh I do love a bit of springtime convection.
  20. Kicking off well in the SW, more than might have been expected perhaps, but we are at peak insolation (?) time right now.
  21. 17mm and counting from midnight onwards. A long time before it clears here, at least a couple of hours I guess. Cornwall should start witnessing some beefy showers very soon, so keep ears pricked for Thunder and Lightning. Devon should also be brightening in parts as I type this.
  22. And the occasional post from some nutter called Tony whom I also believe goes by the pseudonym of gottolovethisweather. During those times I was often the only one found posting and was largely talking to myself, which I still find myself doing on occasion. The midland thread was way different back then too, wasn't it AJ.
