  1. Very pleasant day in the North Norfolk coast - a bit chilly and blustery, but what do you expect for autumn?
  2. In today's video, he's discussing CFS temperature and wind anomalies - mean Jet Stream staying around the UK latitude during the winter months, though the temperature anomalies do suggest that his forecast of +0-+1C in the north and +1-+2 in the south might be a bit OTT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhGUN_-GeFU
  3. I wonder if the wraparound rain will make it this far north. Had been intending to go out this afternoon...
  4. Thanks - from my limited understanding he seems reasonable (not a Madden), but I do wonder where his south/east dividing line leaves us - I think I'm to the north of it, but you must be under it!
  5. Don't know whether this is the right section to post this, but I was wondering what members thought of this seasonal forecast? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGDzO92DqSM If it's correct, going by where their line is drawn, I could either be wet, mild and stormy or more average with 8-20 snow days!
  6. I presume the fronts associated with the low that was Henri are moving more slowly than expected?
  7. Rain has mostly moved through the North Sea, with some around the Broads and East Norfolk/Suffolk. I spent the day at the Mid-Norfolk Railway, mostly at Dereham, and the worst we got (at Wymondham) was some drizzle.
  8. Dreadful situation. Fortunately, Japan, as a wealthy nation should be able to provide for those left homeless by this disaster, but it still doesn't make it any less sad.
  9. Significant improvement during the day here in South Norfolk. Grey and drizzly initially, but the sun is out, with fair-weather cumulus, and it was pleasantly warm around an hour or so ago.
  10. That was the road we used on our way back from friends in North Norfolk, but we were around an hour later, after it got dark. Road was pretty wet, though.
  11. We were driving back from friends in North Norfolk and saw a flash to the east of Norwich which was from that cell as it passed over the Broads. It left quite a bit of standing water on the road near us, though.
  12. It would appear from NWx radar that our region may be affected by the arc of cells just off the coast of Normandy.
  13. Any thoughts as to when/if I might reasonably anticipate sferics this far north in the region (please see my profile for my location)?
  14. Very useful guide, not only for new members but also, I'd have thought, for the average punter who seems to think that these purely model-driven "forecasts" have human input or are somehow supposed to be "guarantees" that the weather type shown is going to occur.
  15. We had a pretty heavy downpour yesterday as the squall line moved through, with one flash of lightning. It was heavy enough to leave standing water in the back garden, though we do have clay soil so it can happen on occasion.
  16. My hunch (FWIW) is that they'll clip the coast but not make it this far inland.
  17. Apologies for the inaccuracy. I had read references to them being from the Netherlands and other references to both companies being associated with national meteorological bureaus, and thereby got the idea that they were the Netherlands equivalent of the Met Office.
  18. Unfortunately, they are already out of the running. From reports both here and in the media, it's a two-horse race between Metra (the commercial arm of the NZ agency) and MeteoGroup (ditto in the Netherlands).
  19. Trouble is, explaining that to the average viewer who is baffled by the fact that they read that the Met Office was losing the contract yet their TV weatherman/woman is still referring to Met Office warnings won't be easy. I don't expect that most viewers will care that the Met Office is required to issue public warnings by the government yet those warnings are being read by a forecaster who, in the next sentence, is discussing a forecast from a company who won a BBC contract - all they'll see is an unnecessarily complex and (for many) utterly baffling set of circumstances. I can think of elderly relatives of mine who will be most confused by this new arrangement.
