  1. It has to be one of the worst week ahead forecasts we have seen for some time. I just don't see how they can put max temps of 6-7c with snow showers down the east coast. Seemed like a bodged forecast that had been put together quickly as the models had changed. This would never have happened with the no-nonsense symbols - would have been able to change them pretty quickly. Probably wasn't Laura's fault, but the forecast was of very poor quality, especially as recent Countryfile forecasts have been excellent.
  2. Basic summary of that forecast is fairly mild for most of the week, perhaps dropping to slightly below average by Friday with wintry showers scraping the east coast.
  3. One of my friends had a bet with a Geography teacher at our school, he reckoned it would snow but the teacher said it wouldn't - my friend now owes him a Mars Bar Met Office got it spot on today.
  4. It has stalled and is dying out. Far too marginal here as well. Apart from the likes of the high ground of Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire this is never going to amount to much - Met Office called it spot on IMO.
  5. I'm not being overemotional at all, it is obvious that the band is not going to get north or east of Birmingham as per my post at 8am. It is also continuing to die out. Hopecasting won't get you anywhere.
  6. Dying out extremely quickly, anywhere that doesn't have snow now will not get any.
  7. Will be a case of look out the window and see what we get.
  8. Met Office advisory still keeps the entire west Midlands in the warning zone. 2-5cm generally with up to 10cm in places. It better not be too bad as I have a maths exam in the afternoon! http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_forecast_warnings.html
  9. FANTASTIC news, my bargain Lite deal is going to be even more of a steal
  10. I have to admit that if we can't get a sub-3c month with one of the most severe cold spells for 20-30 years then I will begin to wonder if it really is achievable anymore!
  11. This could be three Wednesdays on the trot with decent snowfall, should be renamed "wintry Wednesday".
  12. Met Office showing no signs of backing down with their updated warning for Wednesday. Be interesting to see what the Country Tracks forecast says.
  13. I think the main problem is because we have access to masses of GFS data, but nowhere near as much UKMO/ECM data - the GFS is the main source of data that we can quote for short term events.
  14. I doubt it will be mild. I would say average (6-7c). Mild to me is high single figures upwards, which I doubt we will see much of over the next week to 10 days. Certainly felt mild though today after 3 weeks of cold!
  15. Those expecting snow on Wednesday are going to be horrendously disappointed. It is going to be far too warm, the Met Office warning especially mentions high ground. So unless you live 300m+ you will not be getting anything.
  16. Thoroughly depressing day, a typical end of cold spell day. Less cold (but not mild), misty, occasional rain and the revolting brown slush that covers the pavements.
  17. You know the cold spell is over when it's barely above freezing and throwing it down with rain.
  18. People said us younguns would get bored of the snow and cold eventually...well I haven't reached that point and I am very sad to see it all melt away! Hope it returns very soon.
  19. In agreement with the poster just before me, I am getting tired of these general statements without anything provided to back them up. It's getting tiring and irritating - especially to those like me who are trying to learn.
  20. This, Bartlett: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/archive/ra/1998/Rrea00119980213.gif This not Bartlett: http://charts.netweather.tv/gfsimages/gfs.20100114/12/126/h500slp.png Bloody hell, some people need to stop being so negative when there is no reason to be.
  21. What has motorsport got to do with anything...
  22. Well my school has adopted a new tactic today. Yesterday it got everyone in and realised it was stupid and sent them all home at 10am. Today they haven't even said whether school is open or not! What a joke. Declared it open at last. Snow is starting to melt though but I am betting the roads will be covered in sheet ice again.
  23. Had a Redwing visiting our garden the past few days, first time we have ever had one. Been feeding the birds lots the past few weeks, loads have been turning up. A great spotted woodpecker started becoming a regular visitor in December, loves the suet block. Saw a heron in our garden this morning, thankfully he couldn't steal any of our fish (again) thanks to the thick ice over the pond.
  24. Best cold spell in my lifetime. Exceptionally low temperatures, first time I have ever recorded a -10c (got 2 in a row) and had 4 ice days in a row. Plenty of snow, reaching about 4 inches today. Had snow cover for the past 15 days.
